Create jobs this summer and get funding

The applications for the 2014 Canada Summer Jobs fund have changed. The annual government run program, which creates thousands of job opportunities for students throughout the country, has moved its submission deadline to January 31 this year. Create jobs this summer and get funding !

The change was made as to allow participating employers to be notified earlier and begin their recruitment process sooner than previous years.
Canada Summer Jobs will invest a total of $107.5 million to successful employers. This fund will create over 35 000 jobs, helping employers to address skill shortages.

“Our government is creating jobs, economic growth and long-term prosperity,” said Candice Bergen, Minister of Social Development.
“Through Canada Summer Jobs, we are helping students get the skills and training they need for jobs now and in the future. We encourage employers to apply for funding and create jobs that will not only benefit students but communities and local economies as well.”

The fund is available to not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees. Cited employer examples on the servicecanada.gc.ca/csj website include religious and charitable organizations, public hospitals, regional legislative bodies and private educational institutions among others.

Not eligible for funding are members of the House of Commons and the Senate, federal government departments and agencies, and provincial and territorial departments and agencies.

Canada Summer Jobs is subsidizing wages up to 100 per cent of the provincial adult minimum hourly wage for not-for-profit employers. This subsidy is cut in half for public and private-sector participants.

Employers who choose to pay students more than the minimum wage may do so at their own costs.
