Your Opportunity:

Are you ready to make a meaningful difference in healthcare? Alberta Hospital Edmonton is seeking a Pharmacy Assistant to join our team in providing essential pharmaceutical care to patients. In this secure facility, you will support pharmacists, healthcare professionals, correctional staff, and external partners in delivering high-quality services. Under the supervision of a pharmacist or pharmacy technician, you will assist with preparing, distributing, and repackaging medications using automated and computerized systems.

Your duties will include maintaining accurate records of narcotics and controlled substances, restocking ward supplies, processing charges and credits, and checking expiry dates. You’ll help receive, organize, and transport inventory, label and prepare medications per protocol, and collaborate with care teams to support patient needs. You will also contribute to quality assurance activities, assist in training new staff and students, and ensure pharmacy equipment is clean and functioning.

To thrive in this role, you bring a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills are essential. Majority of your shift will consist of heavy lifting up to 40 lbs, standing 60% of the time, crouching, pushing/pulling up to 30 lbs, kneeling, typing, walking and standing for extended periods of time. You will demonstrate professionalism, discretion, adaptability, and a commitment to accuracy and confidentiality. As you will be working in a hospital setting, you could witness emergency situations within the different departments.

Our hospital operates 24/7, with shifts that include days, evenings, nights, and weekends ensuring uninterrupted care and support for our patients.

Description:

As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will be responsible for the packaging, distributing, shipping medications and the management and replenishment of medication inventory levels under the general supervision of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Graduate of recognized pharmacy assistant program and/or recent retail or hospital pharmacy experience acceptable to the employer within the last 5 years. Required to wear appropriate PPE during designated tasks. (PPE includes N95 masks and respirators).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Epic preferably Willow combined with automated unit does repacking equipment.
