About the role

The Department of Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Lead. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to the Principal Investigator.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide clinical and administrative assistance to researchers with respect to ongoing research within the Connective Tissue Disease Research Program, including clinical trials, as well as research cohorts.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Responsible for the coordination and administration of research programs or projects
  • In collaboration with the Principle Investigators, implement the local policies of the research project, evaluating research activities and recommending improvements when appropriate
  • Working closely with the Principle Investigator in the coordination of project resources
  • Involved in recruitment and management of study participants and in overall coordination between clinics
  • Regular contact with research participants that may include scheduling, assessments, consenting participants and follow up with participants
  • Monitor research funding and budgeting resources, collaborating with the Principle Investigator and Research Accounting
  • May be responsible for delegation of tasks and duties to other staff
  • Provide research support, and produce local reports to be received by the central coordination site
  • May provide supervision and direction to administrative and research staff and students in the assignment of tasks and duties
  • Manages own time effectively and ensures immediate reports to manager is kept informed of activities and progress of work
  • Establishes and maintains effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, immediate supervisor, and with the campus community
  • Understanding of safety codes, standards, and systems related to specialization

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree required, Master's Degree preferred in a health related field or appropriate specialized training and certification (eg nursing, medical training)
  • Minimum of 3 years research-related experience including clinical trials
  • A combination of education, training and experience may be considered
  • Intermediate skills in statistical software and analysis programs
  • Extensive knowledge of theory and practical application of research policies and procedures
  • Ability to plan and direct research and administrative activities within a team environment
  • Ability to provide support to other members of the team and related units or teams
  • Ability to solve complex problems
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of research ethics and regulations for granting agencies (e.g. Tri Council)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in budgeting, resource planning and grant applications
  • Demonstrated ability in professional writing, preparing reports and conducting literature reviews for the purpose of presentation and publication
  • Understanding of safety codes, technical equipment and quality assurance procedures, as related to specialization
  • Open to learning and develop and will be willing to accept new challenges and assignments
  • Knowledge of University core business systems is desirable
  • Experience in working in basic science lab is not a requirement, but an asset as the Principle Investigators run translational labs
