About the role

Convergint is currently recruiting for a BAS Estimator to join our amazing team in our Canadian business. Under general supervision, the BAS Estimator will support the Business Development Team in the sales process. This position will support the sales staff by participating in project site walks (when requested), bid plan take offs, bid plan estimates, design build projects, Sales to operations pre-bid review and sales to operations final turnovers.

What you’ll do with “Our Training and Your Experience”

  • Act as a technical resource and support to sales executives including reviewing product strategies, arranging, coordinating, and attending vendor meetings, internal pre bid review, and turnover meetings.
  • Work directly with sales in the estimating & bid process, by being involved in the bid (and/or) no bid decision, and effectively managing the requests from sales through scheduling and communication.
  • Perform job walkthroughs and on-site technical audits in support of the sales team.
  • Work with sales and operations across Canada to continuously improve the go-no-go, pre-bid, and turnover process. Identify any unresolved risk and concern to management for resolution and support.
  • Operates as the SME (Subject Matter Expert) in Convergint core building automation systems. Participates in interactions with vendors and qualification of potential new solutions contributing to our standard product line card of offerings.
  • Develop building automation systems project quotes and assist with proposals for the Canadian CTC’s.
  • Ensures compliance with all Convergint project implementation, documentation and quoting standards. Ensures adherence to industry standards and codes as required.
  • Work closely with sales, purchasing, engineering and our Operational resources to reduce any margin of error in the estimate, while finding the correct solution to help secure the project.
  • Attend pre-bid meeting to provide technical knowledge and assist with determining the scope of work, define material requirements for the estimate, and identify any project risk.
  • Participates in project turnover meetings with both sales and project team. Supports Sales in identifying and reviewing all valid estimating documentation, vendor quotes, and email communications.
  • Develop knowledge in Convergint’s core Building Automation Systems.
  • Act as “our customer’s best service provider” at all times by ensuring Convergint is the customer’s first choice for service.
  • Adhere to and promote the Company’s health and safety procedures as well as ensuring Provincial and local regulations are followed.
  • Always presents a professional image of Convergint in appearance and behavior and seeks opportunities to promote the services offered by the company.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.

What You’ll Need

  • Customer Focus – Maintaining awareness of and seeking to meet of the needs and wants of the customer.
  • Good knowledge of engineering principles and practices related to building automation systems.
  • Must be a self-starter and work well without supervision.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written.
  • Excellent Microsoft Outlook, Project, Excel, Word and Microsoft Teams skills.
  • Shows initiative – regularly engages in proactive behavior and looks for opportunities.
  • Adaptability – Responds effectively to changes in situation or information.
  • Good analytical skills necessary to resolve problems and look for solutions.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of IT networking principals.
  • Good financial analytical skills including cost control.
  • Strong working knowledge of all provincial safety codes such as: Canadian electrical codes, fire codes and building codes.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in operations directly related to the execution and design in the Building Automation Systems industry.
  • Experience working in conjunction with sales, contractors, and end users an asset.
  • Previous experience in operations and or sales/estimating directly related to the execution, design, and risk evaluation of projects and service specific to the building automation systems industry.
  • Solid knowledge of engineering principles and practices related to building automation systems.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience with the construction bid/tendering process and formal RFP/RFQ processes considered an asset.
  • Product-specific certifications preferred: Tridium, Honeywell, Schneider EBO, Distech. Industry-specific and/or IT certifications/licenses preferred.
  • Experience with Bluebeam PDF Tool preferred.
  • Experience in one or more of the following industries preferred: Building management and control systems.
  • Field experience (Installation and Service) considered an asset.
