NOTE: This posting represents a temporary 30-month contract.

SCOPE
Reporting to Manager Community Health Services and a designated Medical Doctor of Concordia University Health Services (CUHS), the incumbent provides direct patient care to Concordia students, faculty, and staff requiring medical attention during walk-in and booked appointments. They will also be involved in providing training to other professionals within Heath Service, research projects, and improvement of unit process efficiencies. They will also be responsible for the direct supervision, training and evaluation of stagiaires.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Perform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments, order and interpret necessary tests, and perform procedures (e.g. Cervical screening tests,, IUD insertion, contraceptive implant) on a student and staff population in a walk -in and booked appointment.

• Provide walk-in services for punctual, primary care issues (e.g., otitis, urinary tract infection) and routine continuity of care for the management of stable, chronic health issues (e.g., asthma, hypertension, mental health, gender-affirming care).

• Carry out screening and diagnostic tests. Monitor all clinical results and follow-up on abnormal test results.

• Collaborate with nursing and medical staff to ensure that patients are referred to appropriate internal and external resources for specialized treatment, diagnosis and/or care.

• Maintain medical records and notes in accordance with professional and licensing standards and guidelines.

• Ensure that the Manager and/or Director are well informed, on a regular basis, of issues and concerns relating to Health Services

• Participate in Nursing Practice and/or Physician meetings to discuss the coordination of patient care, health projects and clinic issues.

• Develop initiatives to promote health and wellness through clinical care, program development, health promotion activities in collaboration with the Health Promotion Specialist, Campus Wellness and Support Services colleagues or other partners across the University

• Collaborate in the development and implementation of protocols with nurses and physicians to improve patient access to care and support health professionals in exercising their full scope of practice.

• Assist in designing and delivering skills training for nurses and professional development activities for health professionals and other staff.

• Direct supervision, training and evaluation of Nurse Practitioner stagiaires.

• Lead or participate in projects or committees at the discretion of the Manager.

• Perform other duties in support of the operation of the unit.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s degree in Nursing with a Certificate in Primary Care and a minimum of 2 years experience as a Nurse Practitioner.

• Licensed with the OIIQ as a Nurse Practitioner. Member of AIPSQ (Association des infirmières Praticiennes Spécialisées du Québec) an asset.

• Previous experience in a clinic environment and knowledge of university policies and procedures an asset.

• Initiate and prescribe PrEP an asset.

• Good spoken and written English (Level 4) in order to inform, advise and communicate effectively with patients;

• Good spoken French (Level 4) in order to provide effective care to students, staff and faculty, as well as to consult with internal and external resources and services. Knowledge of additional languages an asset.

• Experience in emergency procedures.

• Experience working with students and young adults; extensive knowledge of sexually transmitted infections and appropriate screening tests; knowledge of contraceptive practices; experience providing gender-affirming care (e.g., initiating and following up on hormone therapy) and working with diverse communities; knowledge of health promotion and prevention practices; experience working in mental health and with persons in distress.

• Ability to adjust medication for ADHD, anxiety or depression when a diagnosis and treatment plan has been established by an appropriate health professional an asset.

• Must be approachable and composed under pressure, demonstrate flexibility and able to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to deal sensitively with individuals and in confidential situations.

• Ability to maintain proper, detailed medical records and clinical notes on an electronic medical record platform

• Ability to work with MS office, scheduling software and EMR, as well as ability to provide remote consultations with appropriate supports.

• Strong time-management skills, ability to manage multiple priorities and pay close attention to details.
