About the role
Who We Are:
DrugBank is an Edmonton-headquartered, remote-first tech startup working to change the way the world does healthcare.
What We Do:
DrugBank transforms fragmented knowledge on biology, disease mechanisms, and clinical landscapes into a unified intelligence platform that helps scientists uncover hidden opportunities and make confident, data-driven decisions about drug development.
The company sells to pharmaceutical drug discovery and repurposing companies, helping them discover novel therapies, medical advancements, and improve the world’s health. Today, DrugBank works with eight of the top twenty pharma companies in the world, and adds to its portfolio over 150 other customers across biotech, life sciences, and health technology. Beyond that, DrugBank offers an open source tool that is accessed by millions of researchers and health professionals worldwide.
The Role:
We’re looking for a foundational Product Marketing Manager (PMM) to join our team as an embedded strategic partner, market translator, co-owner of go-to-market (GTM), and a savvy storyteller. Our ideal candidate understands the challenges and opportunities of being the first PMM to join an organization, and is eager to get up to speed, understand our products deeply, inform positioning and early approaches to GTM, and gain trust early by being a key partner and collaborator of the product and revenue teams. The best fit for this role is someone who is excited about the prospect of entering uncharted territory, helping the company find true product-market fit, and ultimately being a part of a scaling startup.
Reporting directly to the CEO, the Product Marketing Manager will be responsible for:
- Driving discovery of customers and the market. They live and breathe outreach with the market, customers, and new opportunities. They understand the talkable moments on the roadmap, and help new, untapped markets find our products and get to value.
- Having a tight partnership with Product Management, sharing clear insights and direction on the user journey, ensuring the product direction grows with the needs of our customers.
- Ensuring market context, messaging, and positing are considered from day one, not post-launch.
- Bringing deep knowledge of customer pain points, segmentation, and competitive landscape.
- Helping prioritize the most impactful problems, making sure product bets resonate with the market.
- Partnering with the product team to build GTM in parallel with product development. We believe that GTM is a shared deliverable, not a handoff.
- Enabling the revenue team to be fluent in and equipped to represent the product, value, and messaging.
- Being fluent in product metrics including conversion, retention, CAC, LTV, etc. and helping the product team frame work in terms of business impact.
- Scaling communication of product value across internal teams and external audiences, ensuring the story evolves with the product.
In the first 3 months, the PMM will:
- Deeply understand customers and product: Participate in customer calls (past and future), map user journeys, and analyze funnel drop-offs.
- Audit and inform positioning: Conduct competitive landscape analysis and work with the Growth/User Journey Squad to experiment with new positioning hypotheses.
- Build cross-functional trust: Forge collaborative relationships with Product Leads, PMs (including new hires), Revenue teams, and Marketing.
- Clarify the current narrative: Refine the current go-to-market story with squads and help shape messaging for conferences and key customer touchpoints.
- Start operationalizing GTM: Work with Product to begin crafting a go-to-market plan, identifying gaps and areas needing validation.
- Drive transparency: Make goals, WIP, and outcomes visible across teams, especially showing alignment with Growth and Customer teams.
In the next 3 months, the PMM will:
- Become a roadmap partner: Work closely with Product and Product Dev Leadership Team (PDLT) to align GTM milestones with the product roadmap. PMM should now be part of every Release conversation.
- Define & drive positioning experiments: Set a proactive plan for message validation and refinement in-market, anchored in real user data.
- Show impact on product-led growth: Improve funnel metrics and optimize for self-serve and expansion journeys.
- Increase internal visibility & clarity: Make the PMM function legible - people know what it’s doing, why it matters, and what success looks like.
- Modernize practices: Introducing modern marketing tooling or frameworks where helpful (but cut efforts that aren’t impactful).
- Pressure-test PMF and target segments: Work with Product to validate which segments are resonating best and refine target personas accordingly.

We push our teams to be bold, and we believe in empowering cross-functional impact and a customer-first approach.
Here, we practice aligned autonomy - you’ll have the trust and freedom to own your work, with the guidance and support of a collaborative, low-ego environment. We believe mistakes are part of the process (and often the most valuable part). Iteration and continuous improvement aren’t buzzwords for us - they’re baked into how we operate every day.
On top of that, we offer:
- Thoughtful total compensation package including salary, share options, fully-paid benefits for you and your family, and generous vacation and time off policies.
If you’re looking for a place where you can do your best work, and where smart, kind people are building something meaningful together - you might just be in the right place.
