Job Summary
This position will provide technical support to data management plan development, data management, and assist Post-Doctoral Fellows with the development of machine learning methods.

Organizational Status
Reports to the Principal Investigator (Dr. Leluo Guan). Will work with Post-Doctoral Fellows to establish omics data storage, transfer and management, and develop machine learning models for microbiome research at UBC campus.

Work Performed

  • Assists in developing a data management plan, backing up microbiome and omics data to the UBC Chinook system, and creating a standard operating procedure (SOP) for data storage and management.
  • Conducts literature reviews on machine learning methods and prepares datasets for each identified approach.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

Incorrect decisions, particularly in the field, would likely be costly in terms of wasted time and flawed data. It is important that the individual is sharp, energetic and conscientious. Inappropriate judgment will cause missing data or biased results; missed deadlines which will delay timelines in the Professor’s research project.

Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MSc degree in Computation Biology is preferred.

  • Must have accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to multi-task and decide on how to best use time efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Must be physically fit with excellent stamina, able to perform work for extended periods of time in any weather conditions.
  • Advanced level of computer experience is required (e.g. MS Word, Excel, Email, Internet, using various digital servers)
