About the role

Job Description

Under the direction of Extendicare’s Director, Architectural Services, and as part of the Design team, assist with project design from early feasibility studies to concept development and project design, through to completion of design and construction of multiple simultaneous long-term care projects.

This position will be based at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario. Extendicare offers a hybrid working environment.

Responsibilities

  • Engaging in the early feasibility of projects by conducting site analysis and test fits.
  • Meeting with Extendicare's key stakeholders, including Operations and Asset Management teams, in determining their needs and requirements.
  • Being familiar with municipal planning approval process and being comfortable discussing planning requirements with internal stakeholders, consultants, and municipal representatives.
  • Managing project design from concept development, through design completion, and during construction. This will include preparation and managing an effective schedule.
  • Developing and presenting project proposals.
  • Adjusting designs and plans to meet the client's needs.
  • Effectively managing Consultant Teams to ensure that they complete the preparation of drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Conducting research and compiling reports on feasibility and environmental impact.
  • Ensuring that design complies with MLTC Design Guidelines, safety standards, and local planning regulations and building codes.
  • Determining and adhering to budgets and timelines.
  • Processing permit response letters and coordinating revisions with engineers and consultants to obtain necessary documentation and permits
  • Review all Consultant Due Diligence reports (Geotechnical, Hydrogeological, Environmental and Site Services) to identify and work to rectify all known risks

Qualifications

  • Degree in Architecture / Architectural Technology / Design
  • Minimum 5-year experience in architecture or design office preferred
  • Experience working on large-scale Long Term Care facilities in urban setting is preferred
  • Excellent Technical drawing skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong creative and visualization skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Project, as well as Bluebeam and AutoCAD
  • Good interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulatory standards
  • Knowledge and experience working with MLTC Design Guidelines would be an asset
  • Experience with Official Plan Amendment, Zoning, and SPA processes preferred
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
