Nurses and and Nurse Practitioners of British Columbia (NNPBC) is the professional association representing all four nursing designations in BC – Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPNs), and Nurse Practitioners (NPs).

NNPBC is home for nurses in BC, transforming health and health systems through the breadth of nursing expertise. Role Summary

The Manager, Practice, Education and Research leads the professional practice, research, and education activities of NNPBC. The Manager advances these key streams of work, utilizing a varied and diverse skillset. This position is responsible for leading and providing strategic oversight for the development and implementation of key professional practice resources, developing clinical practice guidance, education and professional development programs, supporting research activities, and fostering collaborative opportunities in nursing education for all nursing designations.

Reports to:  Director, Practice Excellence, Policy and Knowledge

Location:  Remote (with occasional in-person requirements)

Type:  Full-time, Permanent

Salary Range:  $90,000–$105,000 annually + extended benefits, MPP, and professional development/license reimbursement fund

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, the candidate will be able to achieve consistently the following duties and responsibilities:

Practice Consultation and Knowledge Support

  • Provide professional practice consultation directly to BC nurses of all designations
  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of professional practice resources, including decision support tools
  • Collaborate with the Nursing Initiatives for Primary Care team to support professional practice consultation and program evaluation in primary care contexts
  • Advance opportunities for evidence-informed nursing practice
  • Generate nursing knowledge and practice assets for use by BC nurses and the broader healthcare community

Research, Learning, and Knowledge Mobilization

  • Develop and support research activities, including student placements, research assistantships, and knowledge generation, translation, and use
  • Lead the development and implementation of robust and comprehensive continuous learning and professional development offerings for BC nurses
  • Steward educational offerings using a formal life-cycle management approach to ensure up-to-date educational resources.
  • Advance the use and visibility of nursing knowledge across NNPBC

Collaboration and Strategic Partnerships

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key partners in nursing education, health research, innovation, and professional practice
  • Convene and collaborate with post-secondary institutions offering nursing programs across all designations
  • Engage with professional practice leaders, including directors and teams at the health authority level

Team Leadership and Oversight

  • Lead interdisciplinary teams including staff, students, research assistants, and subject matter experts working in practice, education, and research areas

Desired Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s degree in nursing or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience, including direct people leadership
  • Experience conducting research and/or strong knowledge of research processes
  • Completion of training in cultural safety, cultural humility, and anti-racism, including Indigenous-specific anti-racism learning
  • Current registration in good standing as a nurse of any designation with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives or similar registration in another Canadian province or territory

Required Knowledge, Experience, and Skills

Professional and Sector Knowledge

  • In-depth understanding of nursing professional practice regulation and scope of practice controls
  • Strong knowledge of professional practice issues and emerging trends provincially and nationally
  • High-level understanding of the BC healthcare system, including key partners in education, research, and professional practice
  • Commitment to ethical, just, and values-based leadership
  • Ongoing commitment to continuous learning, including anti-racism, cultural safety, and cultural humility

Research and Education Expertise

  • Expert-level knowledge of research processes and methodologies
  • Competency in developing literature search strategies and appraising evidence
  • Experience in nursing education and/or leading student learning, including support for graduate-level research and inquiry
  • Experience developing education and professional development materials
  • Demonstrated experience writing for academic publication and diverse audiences
  • Experience using research software and reference management systems

Leadership and Team Development

  • Proven ability to supervise, coach, mentor, and support excellence in staff teams
  • Experience supporting students in academic placements and research assistant roles
  • Supportive and collaborative leadership approach grounded in nursing knowledge
  • Strong interpersonal and relational practice skills

Program, Planning, and Operational Skills

  • Ability to implement, manage, and monitor program streams, including resource allocation and prioritization
  • Strength in budget development, monitoring, and reporting
  • Experience contributing to organizational annual planning processes
  • Demonstrated ability to assess needs, plan, implement, and evaluate programs to meet operational, member, and community priorities

Technology & Working Conditions

  • Technologically competent in tools required for remote and knowledge work (e.g., Office Suite, SPSS, research databases, project management platforms)
  • Proficiency with relevant technologies (e.g., MS Office Suite, SPSS, research databases, project management software)
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a high-performing hybrid work environment
  • Based in British Columbia
  • Ability to travel as required
  • Capacity to meet the physical requirements of the role (primarily desk-based work)
