About the role

The Haskayne School of Business is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Program Lead, Real Estate for approximately 12 months.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Haskayne Centres, the Program Lead is responsible for the design, development and implementation of programs and initiatives for the Haskayne Centres, with a specific focus on the Westman Centre for Real Estate Studies.

The primary areas of focus for this position are:

  • Student engagement and experiential learning
  • Community and industry engagement
  • Enhancing awareness of the Westman Centre
  • Team support of the Haskayne Centres

The position demands a high volume and variety of work with significant impacts on the formulation of Westman procedures and programs. The position requires frequent interactions with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders. A professional and mature manner along with excellent communication skills are essential. This position works within a framework of University and School policies and procedures and requires personal initiative and sound judgment. The position requires flexibility, a positive attitude, and a readiness to collaborate. Stress level and impact of error are high.

The position also fosters the development of other Haskayne Centres team members and reviews the service delivery of others to ensure accuracy and integrity. The position will be provided coaching to proactively manage personal development and advancement.

This position normally works Monday to Friday, 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M, 7 hours per day (35 hours per week), although extended or alternative hours (evenings and weekends) may be required with advance notice.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Westman General Responsibilities

  • Grow targeted participation in Westman initiatives across all stakeholder groups
  • Consult with stakeholders to determine programming objectives and take responsibility in planning the scope and format of said programming
  • Develop and implement continuous tracking and benchmarking of Westman initiatives, including the development, collection and distribution of key metrics
  • For Westman initiatives, develop and implement project management plan (e.g., program / event description, objective, scope, participants, communication, timelines, collateral), engaging others as needed to ensure success
  • In collaboration with the Haskayne Centres team, ensure that program logistics and preparations (such as venue arrangements, catering, signage, invitations, accommodations, transportations, etc.) are prepared, documented, communicated and implemented
  • Student Engagement & Experiential Learning
  • Develop and implement experiential learning programs and initiatives for the Westman Centre that enhance knowledge retention and student engagement, and help students bridge the gap between theory and professional practice. This includes, but is not limited to career development initiatives, case competitions, participation at industry conferences, and student experience trips
  • Advise students and guide them in finding appropriate experiential learning opportunities that maximize their development
  • Work in collaboration with the Associate Director and program instructors to identify opportunities in the curriculum for partnerships with real estate and tech industries and increase opportunities for students to participate in experiential learning activities
  • Represent the Westman Centre on university and community committees and working groups, where there is a benefit and impact for real estate studies students, as well as students from other faculties and disciplines who wish to engage with the real estate industry
  • Work collaboratively with Real Estate Student Association to engage the club and its members in experiential learning initiatives both as volunteers and participants
  • Support the development of unique scholarship or other funding opportunities for real estate studies students
  • Responsible for ongoing communication of professional development opportunities for students on campus and in the community
  • Remain current in emerging experiential learning theory and practice, such as service learning, work-based learning, action research, and community-based learning
  • Support sessional instructors with experiential learning opportunities.

Community Engagement

  • Develop and implement community engagement programs and initiatives that directly advance Westman strategic objectives
  • With deep knowledge of Calgary based organizations active in real estate industry, develop relationships and identify and foster opportunities for collaboration
  • In support of student engagement and experiential learning programs and initiatives, engage the business community to participate and provide opportunities for students to interact with the community in a meaningful way
  • With the Associate Director and in collaboration with the Haskayne School of Business Development team, engage in activities that support the stewardship of Westman Centre donors and prospective donors
  • Actively participate in the development of proposals and presentations to support development (fundraising) activities
  • Work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders (e.g., cross-faculty, multi-disciplinary internal stakeholders, other universities, business community) to plan and implement initiatives that support thought leadership and the dissemination of real estate research and publications.

Develop Westman Brand and Awareness

  • All programs and initiatives that Westman plans, implements and participates in should take into consideration and positively impact the Westman Centre's brand image and awareness
  • In consultation with the Haskayne Centres and Haskayne School of Business marketing and communications teams, develop and implement communications, initiatives and programs that build the Westman Centre's brand awareness and drive strategic plan objectives, resulting in increased stakeholder engagement
  • In consultation with the Haskayne Centres and Haskayne School of Business marketing and communications teams, develop and implement a communication and social media strategy which includes content development and a process for regular updates to the Westman Centre website, social media and other communication channels (e.g., Annual Report)
  • Build awareness of real estate studies program amongst current and prospective students to grow course and program enrolment.

Haskayne Centres Team Support

  • Support student experiential learning and community engagement initiatives as required across the Haskayne Centres portfolio, including but not limited to: leadership, entrepreneurship, innovation and supply chain student and industry opportunities

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • An undergraduate degree in business or a field related to real estate is required
  • A Masters degree, ideally in real estate, business administration, communications or a related field, is preferred
  • Knowledge of and experience in the real estate industry is an asset
  • Experience with co-curricular or extra-curricular program development, university/industry engagement, event management and/or marketing is required
  • The ability to represent the interests of the Westman Centre, the Haskayne School of Business and the University of Calgary in a professional manner
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and develop / nurture positive working relationships across stakeholder groups (e.g., students, alumni, industry and community partners, advisory councils, faculty and staff, other universities) is required
  • The ability to use good judgment, take initiative, work independently, and organize and complete work with minimal supervision while managing competing and concurrent deadlines is required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills are required
  • Demonstrated project management skills are required
  • Demonstrated creativity and initiative to support continuous improvement and encourage positive outcomes is an asset
  • Strong skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office are required
  • Comfortable learning new software systems is required
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets
  • The ability to work effectively and independently in a large and complex organization is required
