About the role

As a Associate Electronics Engineer at Photon Control Inc., a subsidiary of MKS Instruments Inc., you will contribute to high-visibility technology and product development initiatives within the engineering team. Working closely with the Design and Product teams, you will be responsible for the electro-mechanical design, development, and testing of innovative sensor products. This role offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, high-tech product development environment. In this role, you will report to the Director of Engineering.

You Will Make an Impact By:

  • Contributing to the development and design of next-generation technologies and new sensor products.
  • Fostering a culture of intellectual property generation.
  • Interacting with a multi-disciplined team to innovate novel solutions for future products.
  • Designing schematics and multi-layer PCB layouts using Altium Designer.
  • Developing, debugging, simulating, and testing firmware.
  • Generating technical documentation for the transfer of technology to product development and manufacturing.
  • Conducting design reviews and failure modes and effects analysis.
  • Sourcing components and interfacing with the supply chain to procure required parts.
  • Supporting team members with documentation, including detailed engineering drawings, bills of materials, performance specifications, and test/regulatory-related documents.

Skills You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in Electronics R&D and product development.
  • Experience taking new technologies and products from concept to commercialization.
  • Proficiency in fast prototyping and designing complex analog and digital electronic circuits and assemblies.
  • Experience with C, C++, and HDL coding languages.
  • Proficiency with various MCUs and interface standards, including UART, I2C, SPI, USB, and Modbus.
  • Knowledge of analog signal transmission protocols such as 4-20mA and 0-10V.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as a team player.
  • Excellent time management skills and commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Hands-on experience with testing and debugging using electronics lab equipment.
  • Hands-on soldering and PCBA rework skills.
  • Knowledge of EtherCAT and LabVIEW is considered an asset.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Perform activities such as sitting, standing, or typing for extended periods of time.
  • Operates in a professional office and laboratory/manufacturing environment.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Dedication to safety to mitigate hazards including handling mechanical and electrical hardware, high voltage, gas, water, and heat.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually average.

Compensation: Salary Pay Range: $55,200 - $85,000 CAD per year. This range is a reasonable expectation of pay for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience, education, training, operational and business needs and other considerations.
