Our Recreation Assistants provide enriching, exciting and innovative care for our club members, who are people living with dementia and other cognitive and physical challenges.
Bring joy and fun to our club members by leading activities such as art, music, games, and conversation circles. Or share a quiet moment, walk together, and listen to their life experiences.
With a ratio of one staff member for every four club members, you’ll have the time to really get to know the people you’re caring for. You’ll be empowered to find creative and meaningful ways to meet each club member’s individual needs. It’s person-centered care at its best!
You’ll also be surrounded by a team of caring, supportive and incredibly professional colleagues who work together to provide extraordinary care.
To help you enhance your skills, we’ll also provide you with the following certifications (unless you have them already):

All of our Adult Day Program locations are recently renovated, bright and colourful places. Some have unique features such as living walls and immersion rooms, and all of them are equipped with lots of tools and technology to help you bring the space to life. They are great places to work!
Acclaim Health announces the availability of one (1) temporary Full Time Recreation Assistant position (equivalent to 37.5 hours/week) for the Adult Day and Caregiver Support department to work at our Oakville Adult Day Program location for a period of six (6) months. This position will require the individual to work Mondays from 7:30am – 4:00pm and Tuesday to Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm with a weekend rotation every 6 weeks.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

Assists in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of therapeutic social and recreational programs for older adults with cognitive impairments.

Effectively utilizes recognized communication and behaviour management strategies for working with persons with dementia.
-
Assists in evaluating individual clients’ plan of service and monitors clients’ needs and behaviour in order to modify and update the plan.
-
Assists with clients’ medications in accordance with caregiver instructions and following company policies, procedures, and best practices.

Assists clients with activities of daily living including eating, toileting and mobility as required.

Performs other related duties associated with the department as requested by the Supervisor or Director.
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION:
-
Community College Certificate in health/social science or equivalent
-
Certification in Gentle Persuasive Approaches to Dementia Care – will be provided
-
Certification in CPR
-
Certification in Food Handling – will be provided
-
Current 2 step TB test (completed within the last 12 months)
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
-
Minimum 1 to 2 years experience in gerontology and working with cognitively impaired older adults.

Understanding and knowledge of Alzheimer Disease and related disorders.
-
Strong verbal and written communication, assessment and interpersonal skills.
-
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
SALARY & COMPENSATION:
-
$22.29-$23.39 ($19.29- $20.39 per hour plus a $3.00 extra per hour pandemic wage enhancement for direct client care)

Defined contribution pension plan (company match of 3%)
