About the role:

Reporting to the Superintendent, Environment, the Lead, Environmental Performance and Environmental Management Systems (EMS) is responsible for supporting the implementation of an environmental compliance and performance improvement strategy at Fording River Operations (FRO). This role is important in advancing continual improvement onsite to proactively mitigate potential environmental risks. This role is responsible for facilitating incident investigations, corrective action planning, and assessing the effectiveness of controls related to environment compliance.

To be successful, we are looking for a self-motivated team player with excellent leadership, organization, and facilitation abilities; someone with the ability to manage challenging priorities and can move processes forward. This person will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships across all levels of multidisciplinary teams. This role presents a diverse range of challenges across multiple subject areas and requires a critical thinker with exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills. Additionally, you will be a process-oriented individual with strong organizational and time management skills.

In this role you will:

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Collaborate closely with departments to develop or improve controls that address environment compliance obligations and risks
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary problem-solving sessions related to compliance and known risk sources to implement a variety of corrective and preventive action plans
  • Build and conduct effectiveness reviews, assurance checks, and proactively identify areas of improvement
  • Coordinate, maintain, and manage the Environmental Management System (EMS) to achieve adherence to regulatory requirements
  • Track and report on progress against environmental performance metrics
  • Provide visible felt leadership through frequent collaboration between departments

Requirements:

  • Degree or diploma in Engineering or Science; an environmental related field is preferred
  • Hold a professional designation and meet the BC provincial requirements of a qualified professional for applicable programs is an asset
  • Minimum five years’ experience providing technical direction on environmental risks and challenges associated with resource management. Experience within a mining or industrial setting is considered an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
  • Confident with influencing and supporting practical and process change across various disciplines and departments. Coordinate activities to foster a culture of environmental awareness and accountability.
  • Technical knowledge of federal and provincial compliance practices and regulations
  • Excellent project management experience with a track record that includes managing teams and technical direction of multiple projects and budgets

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
