About the role

Are you passionate about making a difference in a young person’s life? In this role, you'll provide structured, one-on-one support in a home setting to help a Child build independence and thrive.

What You’ll Do: • Offer age-appropriate learning to build developmental skills.

  • Guide behavior management and coping strategies.
  • De-escalate crisis situations with effective interventions.
  • Collaborate with family, care teams, and community professionals.
  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive home environment.
  • Keep accurate documentation and reports.
  • Participating in child-centered recreation and play.

What You Bring

  • Diploma in Human or Social services or other related field
  • Experience working with a care team to support Child/youth with diverse needs.
  • Or a combination of education, training and experience.

Your unique qualities

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with the child, families, and care teams.
  • Support children/youth who have experienced trauma with compassion and understanding.
  • Respond calmly to challenging behaviors, crises, and aggression.
  • Apply attachment theory and CBT principles in your approach.
  • Guided children/youth in life skills, goal-setting, and daily routines.
  • Develop personalized schedules and plans to support growth.
  • Stay active—bike, swim, walk, hike, and engage in client-focused activities.
  • Think critically, follow policies, and take initiative.
  • Manage conflicts effectively and document accurately.
  • Keep the home running—shopping, cleaning, budgeting, and meal planning.
  • Cook nutritious meals to support a healthy lifestyle.
  • Assess safety risks and respond appropriately to crises.
  • Administer medications.

Other Musts

  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License + safe driving record
  • Access to a reliable vehicle
  • Consent to Criminal Record and Background Check by MCFD
  • Unionized position with a 1.85% union dues deduction
  • The following training is required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset: First Aid, Mandt, SafeTALK, Safe Food Handling, Medication Management, Privacy and Information Sharing, Anti-Bullying, and Harassment.
  • Physical requirements of the job include supporting individuals with recreational activities and household duties, including hiking, biking, yard work, snow removal, general cleaning duties, etc.

PROGRAM: 611 Down

LOCATION: Kamloops, BC

STATUS: Part-Time

HOURS of WORK: 16 hours per week

SCHEDULE: Sat-Sun, 7:30 AM-3:30 PM

REPORTS TO: 611 Program Coordinator

COMPENSATION: $27.54 - $31.61 (Grid 11 as per collective agreement)
