About the job

In this role, you will:

  • perform spatial and tabular data entry and processing activities in support of the development and maintenance of research and monitoring data
  • conduct quality control and quality assurance on work produced in-house, submitted by contractors, or provided through partners
  • liaise with management and program staff on data related issues and processes

What you bring to the team

Data management:

  • knowledge of data management practices to ensure efficient capture and long-term integrity of field data, and of technical procedures, standards and specifications to collect, process, verify, and present data
  • knowledge of data/information security and control procedures

Analytical skills:

  • organizational skills and focus to carry out a range of program/project data processing applications including data/file loading, processing, editing, matching and verification/inspection
  • attention to detail to accurately document and report inconsistencies and errors associated with data for which procedures have not been developed
  • analytical and problem solving skills to adapt tasks that vary from daily routines or involve unrelated processes or methods

Communication skills:

  • verbal communication and listening skills to present and discuss computer operation and software failures; data errors and data manipulation; and to present and resolve problems/issues with team members, clients and contractors
  • ability to provide factual information on project status, delivery schedules or capacity levels and to provide technical advice to internal and external users of the data

Computer proficiency:

  • proficient with common office productivity software, such as database, word processing, spreadsheet and email applications
  • skilled in the use of data management software
  • familiarity with processing equipment including digitizers, scanners and workstation peripherals

Natural resources knowledge:

  • knowledge of Ministry of Natural Resources programs and the use of research and monitoring data within these business programs
