Summary of responsibilities

As a successful applicant, you will be part of an exciting hands-on patient care initiative at Cornwall Hospital, the Mobility Team. The patients that are assigned to the Mobility Team will benefit from your focused role in supporting them to safely move throughout the day/evening, whether it is getting out of bed, transferring to a chair, walking, or completing an exercise program. You will take direction from the interdisciplinary care team on the unit. You will receive enhanced training regarding mobilizing and transferring patients to supplement your current knowledge, skills and experience in this area of hands-on patient care.

Requirements of the job

  • Graduate of a Personal Support Worker Program from a Community College

  • Holds current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support

  • Demonstrated ability to work with patients with dementia or cognitive impairments

  • Demonstrated knowledge and practice of good body mechanics

  • Good listening skills

  • Ability to understand, interpret and carry out written or verbal instructions

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of the multidisciplinary team

  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety

  • Demonstrated regular, punctual attendance

  • Functional proficiency in English (oral and written)

Assets:

  • Limited proficiency in oral French – and testing completed
