Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.

The Manager, Payroll Services is currently seeking a temporary full-time Payroll Clerk. This position will provide support to the Payroll Specialists by assisting with payroll transactional support services including the processing of detailed and accurate employee benefits, deductions, attendance and budget allocations for a psychiatric hospital consistent with payroll policies, procedures and best practices. The successful incumbent will also provide administrative and resource services for managers on payroll related issues.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assists in the preparation and processing of biweekly payroll by reviewing and ensuring accuracy of biweekly approved time sheets and input documents from Human Resources.
  • Assists in the research and resolution of coding and payroll discrepancies as applicable through a variety of prepared reports.
  • Utilizes a variety of software packages, prepares a variety of forms and routine correspondence (Service Canada Record of Employment, confirmation letters, requests for information, etc.)
  • Ensures the ongoing maintenance and accuracy of data and maintains a variety of filing systems (e.g. Computerized records/bring forward systems and control files) in order to track payroll transactions, follow up on issues, and compile data for various reports.
  • Confirms system calculations by performing calculations to determine pregnancy/paternity leave top ups, retroactive salary revisions, and merit increases.
  • Performs all work at all times in compliance with all hospital policies, procedures and legislation (Occupational Health and Safety Act, Fire Code, WHMIS, etc.) relevant to health and safety, security and potential risk hazards, and in particular, “duties of the worker” as defined by Section 28 of the OH&S Act.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Payroll Compliance Practitioners (PCPs) designation is preferred but not required
  • 1-2 years of relevant payroll/scheduling experience in a unionized environment is an asset
  • Knowledge of pay and benefits sections of collective agreements, hospital payroll and records administrative policies, procedures and directives
  • Knowledge of legislated statutory deductions and benefits related to Employment Standards Act, Canada Pension Plan, Employment Insurance Act and collective agreements
  • Knowledge of computers and associated software to input, update records, analyze discrepancies, and produce reports (QHR, Excel, Word, Windows, Outlook, and MIS compliant software)
  • Results oriented work ethic to work independently and undertake tasks needed to accomplish work objectives and deliver quality, consistent and timely results
  • Demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to adapt readily to change
  • Models and promotes core ethical practice, Waypoint Values (Caring, Respect, Accountability, Innovation), and reflects an optimistic and positive attitude
  • Preference for proficiency in French/English language skills
