Global Banking and Markets

Global Banking & Markets provides a full range of investment banking, credit and risk management products and services relevant to the financing and strategic development needs of our clients. Our products include debt and equity financing, mergers & acquisitions, corporate banking, institutional equity sales, trading and research, fixed income products, derivatives, energy, foreign exchange and precious & metals. We also cross-sell the full range of wholesale products and services offered by the Scotiabank Group.


The Reconciliation Analyst is responsible for reconciling and overseeing all complex facets associated with the cash and security clearance & ledger activities and in so doing ensure an appropriate level of operational efficiency, strict adherence to Bank and regulatory policies and procedures and escalation of issues to management consistent with our internal and external customers’ needs is maintained and effective procedural and management controls are in place.

The Reconciliation Analyst is responsible for the preparation, investigation, reconciliation, and accurate resolution of the organization’s book of records on behalf of Scotiabank including BNS Group Treasury, International Subsidiaries, Scotia Capital Inc., Scotia iTrade, Scotia Capital (USA) Inc., Scotia bank Europe PLC, BNS Asia, Wealth Management, Scotia Trust, Scotia Private Client Group, BNS Custody Services and Hollis as they pertain to the complex reconciliations. They work closely with his/her Senior Reconciliation Specialist in capturing and monitoring Key Performance Indicator (KPI)

The Reconciliation Analyst is responsible to ensure that all customer inquiries are handled promptly and professionally in an accurate & timely manner resulting in a high level of customer service and satisfaction.


The Reconciliation Analyst ensures that operational efficiency of the Reconciliation and Control unit is maintained at a high level in accordance with approved policies and procedures by:

  • Completing various complex reconciliations / adjustments (as assigned)
  • monitoring outstanding reconciling adjustments
  • proactively assist other team members as required
  • assist with staff training / cross training
  • identifying and pursuing opportunities to improve processing efficiency and / or reduce risk
  • supporting the implementation of new processes/ systems including conversions & project related activities as required
  • Understanding departmental and client needs while collaborating with our business partners to focus on building strong relationships and encourage positive experiences
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk
  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
  • Preparation / completion of the Regulatory / Internal reporting including audit related activities and participating in mid/year end activities (i.e. physical security counts)

Effectively assist the Assistant Managers and Management Team in monitoring related risk and minimizing losses by:

  • ensuring procedural and management controls are followed
  • timely distribution of all reconciliations to business partners
  • ensure control accounts and aged reconciling items are reviewed daily.
  • following escalation procedures for any potential process deficiencies
  • proactively work with other processing areas towards uncovering root causes to reduce demand workload and preventing risk exposure through timely and on-going monitoring / analysis of errors.

    Ensure a high level of customer service is provided to internal clients including Scotia-Capital, Wealth Management (Scotia-McLeod / SMDI /Scotia iTrade / Scotia-trust), Scotia Capital (USA) Inc. and the Bank (GWS / Group Treasury / Custody Services) by:
  • establishing and maintaining a high degree of processing / correcting adjustments in an accurate and timely manner
  • responding knowledgeably, promptly, and professionally to client inquiries
  • providing technical expertise and specialized assistance relative to the various reconciliation / reporting processes

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related discipline
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suits (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Overall knowledge of securities, accounting and finance, with some back-office experience.
  • Must be able to work independently and adapt to the various tasks assigned
  • Strong communication (verbal/written/presentation)
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary
  • Organized, able to multi-task, work well under pressure, and handle multiple projects/initiatives all within tight deadlines and minimum supervision
  • Provide back up for positions during absences / vacations as required. Sundry duties as assigned.
  • Overtime and weekends required as necessary
