About You:

As the Application Development Manager, you will provide leadership to your team and participate in the delivery of enterprise system design, development, release and communication. A strong people manager, you will lead a team of Software Developers, fostering an environment engineering excellence and innovation. Reporting to the Senior Director, Development and this role is based out of our head office in Toronto, Ontario, although we are currently working from home!

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage a team and vendor resources.
  • Mentor, grow and develop your team. Motivate the team to reach their professional growth.
  • Create an environment of collaboration and individual accountability.
  • Participate in hiring interviews for development roles, and support with onboarding and offboarding of team members.
  • Conduct One on One meetings with individual team members, to check-in and review performance.
  • Work with your team and delegate responsibilities for individual teams and projects.
  • Own the complete end to end delivery of software and solution releases.
  • Provide expertise in technical analysis and solving technical issues during project delivery.
  • Establish collaborative and productive relationships with product management, governance, UX design, vendors, and other supporting teams.
  • Keep technical debt in check. Standardize the process for collecting compromises and trade-offs and ensure appropriate prioritization and resolution.
  • Ensure teams are building using modern practices and tools.
  • Create and keep the development plans current. Provide regular updates, and present to cross functional project groups.
  • Cultivate operational excellence within your teams. Understand SLAs and how systems are performing in relation to them.
  • Ensure systems self-report breaches and understand the root cause. Ensure your teams provides a timely resolution of identified production defects.

What You’ll Need:

  • BA/BS degree required, an advanced degree is preferred in CS or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience leading/managing technical professionals.
  • 7+ years of software industry experience.
  • Proven experience in project management of multiple initiatives with competing priorities and disparate resourcing.
  • Hands-on experience with agile software development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban etc.), exposure through TFS is an asset.
  • Experience and comfortable presenting and conducting various types of sessions planning, designing, review etc.
  • Experience managing teams delivering high traffic, high availability n-Tier, Web, Mobile, and/or Integration solutions.
  • Experience developing and delivering complex enterprise real-time and batch integration solutions.
  • Customer-focused mindset, taking pride in creating an informative data-driven journey.
  • Extensive experience working with C#, ASP.NET MVC, AJAX, WCF, Web API, RDBMS, and NoSQL.
  • Knowledge of modern web UI standards such as HTML5, CSS3, Angular, React, and JSON (Twitter Bootstrap, Telerik Kendo UI, JQuery, JavaScript).
  • Experience to build automation tools, CI, and CD software using TFS.
  • Experience with writing software Tech Specs and documentation to handover to production and support.
  • Excellent communication skills in English; both verbal and written
  • Excellent analytical and creative problem solving, research, and reporting skills.
  • Fast-paced, deadline-oriented work environment.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to support a team that operates 24/7, 365 days.
