Specific Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Manager, America’s, the IT Applications and Operations Manager oversees the Canadian IT organizations daily activities including managing the resources, developing and implementing an operational plan and ensuring that the plan is carried out as approved. This includes regular evaluation to ensure its efficiency and alignment with the businesses needs and if necessary, makes changes to maintain daily operations while meeting the businesses current and long-term needs.


  • IT Applications and Operations Manager is responsible for providing technology planning, strategy and vision for Lockheed Martin Canada’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) applications and business systems
  • Interacts with all required managers and employees of functional departments to develop strategic plans and roadmaps for IT systems to meet Lockheed Martin Canada business needs.
  • The manager oversees LM Canada budgetary process collating information collected from other IT managers and developing and securing the annual budgets supporting the Senior Manager (America’s) in communicating the annual program of work and developing the expectations with Senior Management.
  • As part of the budgetary process the Applications and Operations Manager on behalf of the Senior Manager oversees and reports on the annual capital and operating budgets monitoring the IT spend in Canada including the annual integrated schedule of multiple technology projects/priorities.
  • The IT Applications and Operations Manager is responsible for supporting various auditing processes; internal and external, ensuring that the systems maintain the highest level of availability, confidentiality and integrity of Lockheed’s data assets.
  • Responsible for human resource management including hiring, managing, developing, terminating employees as required to ensure IT has the appropriate personnel and skills required to fulfill current and future demand and as required develops augmentation plans utilizing third-party contractors
  • IT Applications and Operations Manager acts as the site representative for all implementations and serves as an escalation point representing the Senior Manager as required.

Required skills, qualifications and experience

Required Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to be able to interface effectively with a broad range of contacts from technical staff to senior management.
  • Strong business and financial acumen.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple concurrent activities and to work successfully under pressure.
  • Analytical thinker, with ability to solve problems.
  • Can deal with ambiguity and requests for change.
  • 10+ years in a senior IT leadership role
  • 7+ years managing integrated multi-disciplinary teams of contract and permanent staff
  • 5+ years proven experience managing budgets exceeding $5M
  • 5+ years’ experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • 3+ years’ experience in client relationship management at all levels of the organization
  • Experienced in preparation and delivering senior level presentations
  • Strong facilitation experience
  • Knowledge and experience with IT project administration and management including experience with monitoring the vital signs of an IT project
  • SAP experience - an asset

  • Degree in an IT discipline or qualified experience
  • PMP or PRINCE2 designation
  • Bilingual (Engish/French)
