Board of Director Opportunities

Open Door Group is looking for Directors to join our Board. Board Directors play a critical role in supporting the ongoing sustainability of Open Door Group as a charitable and enterprising non-profit organization that seeks to support all individuals in achieving personal success and finding meaningful employment.

Established in 1976, Open Door Group is one of BC's largest independent not-for-profits in the employment services sector, providing employment and leisure services to thousands of individuals each a year, including those facing barriers to employment such as youth, people with disabilities, individuals living with mental illness, immigrants, and Indigenous people. The society operates with an annual budget of $26 million, over 140 staff, and additional supervision of over 40 partner staff in eleven locations throughout the province.

Working in partnership with all levels of government, more than 20 service organizations, and hundreds of businesses, at their core, Open Door Group is about people and relationships. We are looking to expand our governance Board and seek to ensure that the board’s composition considers the balance of skills, experience, knowledge, perspectives, independence, and characteristics in alignment with the strategic needs of the organization

Responsibilities Include:

• Engaging in strategic planning for the organization of operations and fund development
• Actively promote Open Door Group and use Board members’ influence to positively contribute to advancing reputation and brand of the Society
• Ensuring Open Door Group’s continued financial integrity, financial sustainability, and provide recommendations for improvement or corrective measures as required
• Leverage knowledge, expertise, connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve Open Door Group mission, vision, and goals
• Regularly assessing the Board’s performance and playing a key role in strategic development, performance measurement, risk management and board governance
• Remain informed of new developments in the governance and regulatory environment
• Review and maintain Open Door Group governance and operating policies and procedures
• Providing leadership to board committees – each board director is expected to serve as an active, ongoing member of at least one committee
• Attending regular meetings of the Board of Directors at Open Door Group’s corporate office in Vancouver or by video-conference
• Being accessible for personal contact in between board meetings via email correspondence and phone calls
