Division Description

Located in Milton, Ontario, Modatek Systems is a divsion of Magna International. At Modatek, our dedicated team produce chassis systems utilizing innovative hydroforming, automated welding, and electrostatic coating processes within a large, safety-focused facility.

Role Summary

The Buyer is responsible for the procurement and management of components for the front and rear suspension, frame assembly modules (including steel, stampings, weld assembly, coatings, tooling, fixtures, etc).

Key Responsibilities

• Develops and executes effective bidding, negotiation, and pricing strategies to provide with the best value for the dollars spent in a manner that meets the budget, policies, ethical standards and audit requirements.
• Conducts market studies to maintain a fair and reasonable value for product for program duration
• Supports continuous improvement culture that enhances relationships with suppliers to achieve goals
• Establishes solid multiple sources to ensure continuous supply and availability of purchased components and directed-buy components for production, prototype, and tooling.
• Participates in design reviews in order to ensure the successful launch of new products and tools
• Ensures successful implementation of approved engineering changes by closure of all commercial issues with suppliers while supporting on time delivery, and maximizing profits
• Prepares reports for KPI monthly goals and targets
• Prepares, negotiates and executes all contracts according to policies and procedures and government regulations
• Procure all emergency requirements in cooperation with requisitioning departments and other supporting segments to ensure project completion
• Communicates effectively with all requisitioning departments, and arranges for proper and accurate information exchanges between originator and suppliers
• Ensures that all applicable GST and Provincial Tax Exemptions are claimed
• Reconciles variances between Purchase Orders and Invoices (Price, Quantity, Free On Board (F.O.B.), Inco terms, Terms of Payment)
• Ensures purchase orders are entered in a timely manner
• Maintains supplier files, purchase prices, price fluctuations and quality records (CMS/SharePoint)
• Resolves material claims with suppliers
• Adheres to Modatek’s core values; integrity, respect, trust, honesty, fairness and loyalty
• Performs other duties as required

Key Qualifications/Requirements

• Post-secondary Degree/Diploma in Business Administration or Materials Management
• Three (3) to five (5) years supply chain experience
• Excellent computer skills (Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint)
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)
• Good mathematical and problem solving skills
• Analytically minded and possess excellent negotiating skills
• Ability to work to meet deadlines and multiple demands
• Ability to uphold confidentiality
• Driven and detail-oriented attitude
• Demonstrates the ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Ability to work overtime to meet customer needs
• Eligible to travel outside of Canada with a required valid passport
