Purpose:

To provide financial and management accounting support in the growth of the company, and the conduct of the business in accordance with Colas Rail business policy, in compliance with local regulations. This role will work with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) on the continuous improvement of the financial performance and will be responsible for the correct accounting presentation according to the local regulations. In line and behind Colas Rail French Accounting Department, the Chief Accountant will be in charge of reporting local and group (consolidation package) and to apply the group instructions in coordination with the Colas Rail Group Accounting department.

Responsibilities:

  • To lead and manage the local accounting team and assist with technical skills
  • To collaborate effectively with international groups and preform consolidation when required
  • To be open minded and be able to work efficiently with foreign and local colleagues
  • Lead and oversee all aspect of day-to-day accounting activities, including providing leadership and direction to ensure high standards of financial and management reporting
  • Effectively manage the working capital, in particular accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash and taxes
  • Completion of all monthly accounting reporting requirements accurately within required deadlines
  • Review all reconciliations and control accounts
  • Analyze monthly financial results and provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance
  • Under the supervision of the CFO, team with Project Director, Project Manager and/or Commercial
  • Manager in monitoring and improving project financial performance
  • Must be able to enforce and control processes to ensure the financial discipline throughout the organization and secure the payments
  • Under the supervision of the CFO and Colas Rail’s Accounting Department, the successful candidate will liaise with auditors on annual audit, as well as relevant government authorities on audit and statutory issues
  • Ensure compliance to limits of authority and procedures for finance and accounting
  • Responsible for all governance frameworks, including but not limited to audit and tax compliance
  • Ensure tax reporting processes are accurately completed, submitted and payments made within required timeframes
  • Under the control of the CFO will be the day to day correspondent with auditors, tax advisors, bankers and other parties
  • Any other related tasks that may be assigned

Requirements:

  • Degree in Accountancy, preferably CPA/ACCA/CIMA qualification
  • Fluency in oral and written English and French required
  • Excellent MS Office skills, particularly in MS Excel
  • Experience with JD Edwards Financial modules, an asset
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in accounts/financial and management accounting tasks.
  • Experience as a leader of an accounting team and a proven track record of good leadership, developing people and interpersonal skills
  • Strong knowledge of local and international accounting standards and local tax regulations
  • Excellent strategic planning skills
  • Excellent accounting and tax knowledge (Canadian + IFRS)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Autonomous, highly meticulous and resourceful
  • Open minded with foreign financial approach
  • Construction industry experience, an asset
