Chief Operating Engineer – Thunder Bay Mill Operations

Resolute Forest Products has a current vacancy for a Chief Operating Engineer.

Your challenges:

The Chief Operating Engineer shall report to the Site Operations Manager of the Thunder Bay Operation and will interface with the News and Kraft Mills to ensure that the Utilities Department is operated to support their goals.

Your primary responsibilities will include the following:

  • The safe and efficient operation of the Utilities Department which includes steam and power generation, liquor recovery and air systems and recausticizing.
  • You will ensure that established targets for safety, production, quality and costs are met or exceeded while maintaining compliance with environmental and government regulations.
  • Establish short and long range objectives for strategic planning including manpower requirements and efficiency levels.
  • Coordinate training for all Power Engineers and associated positions.
  • Develop and monitor operating budgets and identify capital project requirements.
  • Work with the Maintenance Department to plan daily repairs and scheduled shutdowns.
  • Ensure inspection and maintenance of pressure vessels is completed.
  • Ensure the facility is operated and maintained to corporate, industry and legislative standards including TSSA standards.

Your profile:

  • 1st Class Operating Engineer Certificate.
  • Must have at least 10 years’ experience in a utilities operation. Experience in a pulp and paper mill would be an asset.

Your skills and assets:

  • Excellent organizational, analytical and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities to completion within a tight timeline.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required, including an ability to work collaboratively within a fast paced and structured unionized environment.
  • Proficient in computer systems, software and email such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Lotus Notes.
