Installs and maintains telecommunications and Business Systems equipment and associated wiring/fibre throughout Northwestel's operating area.
Organizes, develops, plans and documents all on site work to the Customer's/Company's satisfaction. This may involve coordinating work with other employees and training customers.
Represents the Company through direct contact with customers. During these contacts explains Company equipment and services as is appropriate.
Climbs poles, uses ladders and operates vehicular equipment in a safe efficient manner. Uses hand and power tools.
Maintain multiplexing, VF and associated signaling equipment and digital exchanges.
Performs circuit order and work order activity as required Maintain/install supervisory equipment.
Install and maintain data circuits and associated equipment.
Configure and install IP equipment/services.
Contribute individually or as part of a team to continuous improvement in the delivery of product or service to internal and/or external customers.
Actively participate in personal education and development.
Protect the Company's assets.
Required to travel to sites and out of town and may be required for call outs.
KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
Journeyman communications technician or graduate of a 2-year communication electronic program at a recognized technical institute
Experience with installing/configuring Nortel and Mitel Voice Switching equipment.
Cisco and Nortel Certification would be an asset.
Ability to work effectively without direct supervision.
Ability to work effectively as a member of a team with a broad range of duties.
Possess valid drivers license (minimum class 5).
Must be physically capable of performing duties.
Must be willing to work inside or outside in all weather conditions.
