Job Description

About this opportunity:

We have an immediate opportunity for a Contract Operator in Grande Prairie (Wapiti area). The successful candidate’s primary responsibility will be to effectively participate as a team member in the operation and maintenance of our gas wells and facilities. The operations team ensures the maximum performance of mechanical, instrumentation and facilities while managing the day-to-day operation of wells, pipelines, multi-well batteries, field booster compressors and sour gas facilities.

Work Environment:

This is a full-time contract position, with a rotational schedule of 8 days on, 6 days off working 10 hours.


  • Responsible for assisting the Operations team to manage day-to-day operation of wells, pipelines, multi-well batteries and gas compression facilities
  • well and facility monitoring and maintenance
  • Production accounting with PV
  • Assist with production optimization, trouble shooting and equipment maintenance
  • Working in a team atmosphere and taking on a variety of operating challenges
  • Understand and perform safety, environmental and regulatory responsibilities such as hazard identification, equipment lockout, emergency response and implement safe work procedures
  • Identify and scope out opportunities to maximize production, minimize operating costs and eliminate downtime
  • Perform housekeeping, performance monitoring and maintenance activities


  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • this is a safety sensitive position and will be subject to the relevant requirements of the Cenovus Alcohol and Drug policy which includes pre-assignment testing
  • Minimum of 3+ years of oilfield experience in an operations role
  • Strong field/plant operating background
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Well-developed communication skills
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s license (drivers abstract is required)
  • First Aid, CPR, TDG, WHMIS and H2S certifications
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
