Pay Range for this position is: $35.86 - $39.67

Role Summary

In conjunction with the Maintenance Team, the Controls Technician provides day-to-day troubleshooting, programming and technical support of machinery and executes continuous improvement projects within the processing departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, repair and maintain electrical, electronic equipment, instrumentation as well as computerized systems (HMI, PC'S, Vision Systems & network troubleshooting) related to manufacturing machinery and systems
  • Design and implelment machine control software and programs for automation system projects to meet Quality, Manufacturing Engineer, and / or Customer requirements.
  • Troubleshoot problems and implement design changes
  • Ensure equipment operates effectively based on customer specifications
  • Direct manufacturing line support
  • Reteach and troubleshoot robotic material handlers and weld cells
  • Interface with suppliers and contractors on a technical level for the purpose of sourcing, troubleshooting and / or to ensure program goals are met
  • Create and maintain technical documents - document all electrical changes to machinery
  • Procure spare components, provide justification for ordered spares
  • Peform PM inspections as required
  • Ensure Safety by working in accordance with the Ontario Hydro Electrical Code and CSA-Z432 safety standard
  • Assist with mechanical repairs as required
  • Take direction from the Maintenance Supervisor and Team Leader on priority of task

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Electrical / Electronic / Mechatronic Technologist or similar Engineering degree / diploma / certificate or Trades Qualification and significant equivalent work experience
  • Proficient knowledge in the following software packages:
    • Allen Bradley RSlogix 500 / 5000
    • Factory Talk View Studio
    • Allen Bradley Panel Builder32
    • Omron CX-Programmer
    • Omron NT-series Support Tool
  • Ability to understand and apply basic ladder logic principles, including sequencer and analog control for I/O
  • Ability to understand high-end PLC commands and HMI usage
  • Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting and programming PLC / Robotics in addition to electrical control system design
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Knowledge of and ability to troubleshoot industrial networks (deviceNet, EthernetIP)
  • Knoweldge of and ability to troubleshoot machine safety circuits and applications (ABB Jokab)
  • Previous experience and exposure to robotics (ABB, Motoman etc)
  • Knowledge of welding and welding processes - Laser and MIG (Trumpf, Fronius)
  • Servo Motion Programming (AB, Omron, Tox)
  • Familiar with Vision Systems (Keyence, Cognex, Omron)
  • Experience with Data Tracking using Barcode Scanners or RFID
  • Considerable Knowledge of the use of electrical devices (i.e Proximity switches, load cells, LVDT's, signal conditioners, etc)
  • Ability to read and understand technical documents, schematic design specifications
  • Good Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with desigining, building and wiring panels
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
