Cleveland-Cliffs Tooling and Stamping is looking for a Corporate Controls and Automation Manager for its Corporate Team based out of Windsor, Ontario.


Job Brief:

Experienced automation engineer with excellent automation skills having executed leadership and supervisory roles in his trade.

Good understanding about production solutions, play a strategic role in identifying opportunities & implementing automation solutions, which would involve in–depth studies and understanding of the various operation process flow, structure & business model to bring about continuous productivity and efficiency throughout the corporation.

Provide first-line supervision, technical assistance and training to a staff of Industrial Electricians, Automation and Controls Engineers for the corporation.

Act as Electrical Project Manager for Capital Projects. Responsible for managing the planning, scheduling, project plan, project process across the corporation. The incumbent is accountable for all technical direction and ensuring compliance with electrical building code, electrical construction standards and quality and safety Regulations. The Electrical Project Manager for Capital Projects works with the VP of Manufacturing Engineering, Facility Planning and Management in the design and execution of all capital projects across the Corporation. Responsibilities will span a broad spectrum, covering all areas of electrical controls and automation associated with project management such as Project Planning, Cost Management, Time Management, Quality and Risk Management and Contract Administration & Safety.



Responsibilities:

  • Constant improvement of proprietary machinery and processes specific to the Corporation
  • Develop technically and commercially Plant Automation solutions (hardware and software)
  • Continually evolve the working practices within the center to improve efficiency and productivity when producing software and documentation.
  • Drive and implement rigorous quality standards for all aspects of the automation delivery from initial concept to final commissioning and handover.
  • Ensure quality of deliverables for electrical projects
  • Participation and technical contribution to customer and sales meetings
  • Drive productivity and risk management.
  • Capitalize on business opportunities in clusters being served thereby ensuring high occupancy of resources.
  • Effectively manage the automation engineering resources to deliver complex multiple projects on time and to budget
  • Manage sub-contract resource, and ensure compliance
  • Production of Functional and Software Design Specifications. PLC Software, Factory and Site based testing including production of all test documentation and on-site commissioning.
  • Collaborate with counterparts in the Manufacturing and Capital Project Departments to ensure consistency of delivery from Capital Projects.
  • Continuous buildup of competency.
  • Develop sub vendors to tide over resource crunch during peaks.
  • Contribute to the development of relevant working procedures, templates and standards.
  • Coordinate installations of all equipment at all facilities throughout the corporation
  • Coordinate work done at any new building or growth at all facilities
  • Able to develop timeline, budgets for all projects
  • Able to source suppliers and track their progress for all trades
  • Able to develop and follow buyoff procedures for all equipment and buildings
  • Create and keep track of any and all drawings needed to complete work above
  • Ensure all machinery and automated Equipment Comply with safety rules and policies as established by the Company and OHSA


Skills and Qualifications:

  • B.A.S.c in Electrical Engineering or Diploma in Industrial Automation
  • 5 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of PLC Systems.
  • Knowledge of Ethernet networking and field bus systems such as
  • Contractual and commercial awareness
  • Skilled with the preparation of tenders for automation/electrical solutions
  • Experience of implementing automation/electrical solutions and writing software code
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Effective coach
  • Proven leadership and motivation skills
  • Able to communicate with customers at all levels and capable of managing their expectations
  • Ability to motivate a team of Automation Engineers, Electricians, Controls Engineers and Project Managers.
  • Theoretical understanding of electrical devices and servo systems
  • Strong technical and analytical aptitudes for problem solving
  • Good analytical ability
  • Computer literate – AutoCAD, MS Word and Excel
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Prioritizing / time management skills, ability to cope with multiple tasks
  • Self-motivated.
  • Strong communication and organization skills
