BC Children’s Hospital
The Department of Radiology at BCCH is an academic clinical department affiliated with the University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine that delivers tertiary care pediatric imaging services for the patients of BC Children's Hospital and adjacent BC Women’s Hospital NICU. The Department supports the provincial pediatric transplant, trauma, oncology, neurosurgery, and heart centre programs, and acts as a resource for pediatric imaging throughout the province. The Department of Radiology, comprised of 14 pediatric and interventional radiologists, is located in the newly opened, innovative, 231-bed Teck Acute Care Centre at BC Children's Hospital where 95,000 exams are performed annually. The Department has state of the art 3T and 1.5T MRI, CT, US, Nuclear Medicine, fluoroscopy, and radiography systems. Interventional radiology suites are equipped with angiography and intraoperative CT systems shared by radiologists, surgeons, and endoscopists.
Reporting to the Vice President, Medicine, and working in a co-leadership model with the Medical Imaging Operations Director, as the Department Head you will share responsibility for the overall management of the Department’s clinical programs. You will drive the planning and delivery of medical services based on the needs of the Department, the Hospital, and the province to align with PHSA’s overall strategy and work in collaboration with other medical leaders in the Hospital and Health Authorities to enable improved patient outcomes and experiences.
Through affiliated appointment with the University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine and BC Children's Hospital Research Institute (BCCHRI) you will have the opportunity to build on the academic mandate of the Department and to further develop education, research and informatics. You will support the Department members to maintain a comprehensive post-graduate medical training program, including the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons accredited Pediatric Radiology subspecialty residency / fellowship.
As the Department Head, you will be responsible for the delivery and management of medical programs, including quality, safety, professional practice, and medical staff development and support. In this position you will establish the framework and infrastructure for program delivery, planning, and management of medical resources including human and financial, anticipating future changes that will affect service delivery.
Candidates must be eligible for medical licensure in the Province of British Columbia, have or be eligible for Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Diagnostic Radiology and have completed a recognized fellowship in Pediatric Radiology or other Pediatric Radiology subspecialty. Executive or leadership training (e.g. MBA, Physician Management Institute or equivalent) would be considered an asset. You must have strong leadership abilities with experience in managing people and department operations. The ideal candidate will have the ability to build coalitions, and interact tactfully and effectively with staff at all organizational levels both internally and externally to BCCH, PHSA, UBC as well as BCCHR.
