SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

We are seeking a full-time Director of Professional Talent to join the Halifax office. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will act as a firm ambassador to develop and implement leading edge strategies to attract, engage and retain the best lawyer talent available;

Responsibilities will include associate recruitment, professional development, performance review and engagement;

You will be the interface between the firm and the associates;

You will build effective working relationships with our lawyers to understand their needs, and proactively design, introduce and implement innovative education, training and support programs that enhance their knowledge, skills and abilities;

You will use your coaching and mentoring skills to foster a high performance culture that emphasizes client service, productivity and goal attainment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct the activities of the Coordinator of Student and Clerk Programs;

Participate in the Operations Management Team to set out annual operatonal goals and budgets;

Meet regularly with associates to determine the progress of their professional development and individual practices and to provide any support required;

Monitor, address and implement a comprehensive training and development program for associates;

Coach and mentor associates and administer the individual mentoring and championing program;

Ensure that a comprehensive and up-to-date orientation and training program for all hire-backs and lateral hires, including associates, counsel and partners, is maintained and implemented;

Coordinate and support outside professional development and conference opportunities for associates;

Participate in the annual recruitment process of law students and clerks;

Participate in the annual hire-back process;

Act as the point person for all lateral hire opportunities;

Ensure that the firm's performance review processes for associates are carried out in a timely, thorough and fair manner;

Review and recommend associate compensation;

Act as a sounding board for associates in terms of career choices and possible pathways that individual associate careers can take;

Initiate and oversee procedures to ensure administrative compliance with NSBS requirements for lawyers, summer students and clerks; and

Other duties as required.
