An overview of your future role at BBA

BBA's Thunder Bay office will comprise various multidisciplinary teams supporting the project cycle in the Power, mining, and metals sectors in conjunction with staff from other BBA offices. From environmental, mining, geological, and process studies to multidisciplinary detailed engineering, project management and control, and start-ups, our teams are dedicated and committed to delivering high-quality services that fully meet client expectations.

In line with the firm's strategic plan, you are responsible for developing a plan that defines the strategic and operational objectives for the Thunder Bay office and for ensuring this plan is implemented. As the director, you will have the exceptional opportunity to lead, engage and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team of professionals with a vision of growing to 15+ in the near future. You will also be responsible for building the firm's operations and for managing the human and financial resources of the Thunder Bay office. This critical role reports directly to the regional executive.


An overview of your mandates and responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities

  • Help open and establish a new BBA office in Thunder Bay.
  • Working with the regional executive, refine and update the Thunder Bay business plan to fit with your skillset while
  • keeping the visions intact.
  • Accountable for the implementation of the business plan.
  • Attract, recruit and train the most talented candidates that fit within the plan.
  • Build business relationships with local clients.

General Responsibilities

  • Translate general strategies into specific operational objectives and plans.
  • Prepare annual budget estimates for the office.
  • Assess the achievement of objectives based on key performance indicators.
  • Manage the risk of the firm's operations by reviewing and all projects with the operations.
  • Implement contractual strategies in line with the firm's strategic directives.
  • Ensure the highest standards of occupational health and safety are implemented and met according to the firm's expectations.
  • Manage the development of employee technical knowledge and skills.
  • Ensure collaboration objectives are achieved with other offices, teams and departments, both regionally and nationally.
  • Ensure policies, operational processes and engineering practices are applied in accordance with BBA's quality standards.
  • Work with discipline leads and department managers to inform them of key operational parameters, coach them and hold them accountable for their assigned tasks.
  • Provide project, technical or business development leadership ~30% of working time.
  • Oversee procurement of goods and services and office space leases together with management in Corporate Services.
  • Be an ambassador of the firm's values, promote them and lead by example.

Overview of certifications and job requirements

  • University degree in engineering or diploma in a relevant program of study.
  • 15 years of relevant experience, minimum 5 within a consulting engineering firm.
  • Experience with P&L responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of the mining and metals sector or of the power sector.
  • Significant network of contacts in the power and/or mining and metals sectors.
  • In-depth knowledge of multidisciplinary engineering.
  • Experience in engaging and managing teams.
  • Excellent soft skills and collaborative management skills.
  • Experience and interest in business development.
  • Experience in organizational development and in managing multidisciplinary work teams.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Asset: Knowledge of French.
  • Asset: Knowledge of Spanish.
