An overview of your future role at BBA

BBA’s Toronto office is comprised of various multidisciplinary teams that support the complete project cycle in the industrial, and mining and metals sectors. From environmental, mining, geological and process studies to multidisciplinary detailed engineering, project management and control and start-ups, our teams are dedicated and committed to delivering high-quality services that fully meet client expectations.
In line with the firm’s strategic plan, you are responsible for developing a plan that defines the strategic and operational objectives for the Toronto office and for ensuring this plan is implemented. As a positive leader, you will have the exceptional opportunity to lead, engage and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team of over 50 experienced professionals with a vision of growing to 100+ in the near future. You will also be responsible for building the firm’s operations and for managing the human and financial resources of the Toronto office. This critical role reports directly to the regional executive.


An overview of your mandates and responsibilities

  • Translate general strategies into specific operational objectives and plans
  • Assess the achievement of objectives based on key performance indicators
  • Build business relationships with the firm’s clients
  • Manage the risk of the firm’s operations
  • Implement contractual strategies in line with the firm’s strategic directives
  • Prepare annual budget estimates for the office
  • Optimize team operational efficiency
  • Consult with other stakeholders to understand the implications and issues of decisions to make
  • Lead office activities in accordance with BBA values and culture
  • Coach, engage and manage teams of professionals toward achieving common goals
  • Ensure the highest standards of occupational health and safety are implemented and met according to the firm’s expectations
  • Rigorously carry out assigned health and safety roles and responsibilities
  • Manage the development employee technical knowledge and skills
  • Attract, recruit and train the most talented candidates
  • Ensure collaboration objectives are achieved with other offices, teams and departments, both regionally and nationally
  • Be an ambassador of the firm’s values, promote them and lead by example
  • Ensure policies, operational processes and engineering practices are applied in accordance with BBA’s quality standards
  • Encourage ingenuity, seek creative solutions and innovation to improve the organization’s business practices
  • Work with discipline leads and department managers to inform them of key operational parameters, coach them and hold them accountable for their assigned tasks
  • Provide project, technical or business development leadership ~30% of working time.

Overview of certifications and job requirements

  • University degree in engineering or diploma in a relevant program of study
  • 15 years of relevant experience, notably within a consulting engineering firm
  • In-depth knowledge of multidisciplinary engineering
  • Experience in engaging and managing teams
  • Excellent soft skills and collaborative management skills
  • Experience and interest in business development
  • Experience in organizational development and in managing multidisciplinary work teams
  • Experience with P&L responsibilities
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken
  • Asset: Knowledge of the mining and metals sector
  • Asset: Knowledge of the power sector
  • Asset: Knowledge of French
  • Asset: Knowledge of Spanish
  • Asset: Significant network of contacts in the power and/or mining and metals sectors.
