Building a community of hope since 1987, we would like to invite you to join our journey. Siloam Mission is currently seeking for Casual Worker, Drop-In Support Staff. This position will provide professional and proactive support to Community Members who access Siloam Mission Drop-In services.

As part of Siloam Mission’s mandate to be a connecting point between the compassionate and less fortunate, the incumbent is expected to facilitate volunteers whenever possible in the performance of his or her duties.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide direct support for community members accessing Siloam Mission’s Drop-In services (i.e. meals, entrance, clothing room, health center, devotions, volunteer clean-ups, etc.) in a professional manner;
• Provide professional compassionate daily feedback and address any behavioral concerns with community members;
• Provide professional day to day guidance and support to community member's housing plans;
• Respond to any emergency situations that may occur at the assigned workplace;
• Provide professional and informative orientation of the Drop-In to Volunteers;
• Ensure volunteers, staff and other stakeholders are treated with equality, respect, dignity and support them to have a positive experience while at the Mission;
• Support the team in the daily clean-ups in the drop-in area;
• Prepare and complete incident reports, daily logs and other required documents and reports.

Qualifications & Experience

• Completion of diploma or degree in Health Services or Social Service discipline or equivalent years of experience;
• Must have a heart for the vulnerable homeless population and the desire to work towards Siloam Mission's strategic goals of ending homeless;
• Demonstrated knowledge of NVCI, ASIST, CPR/First Aid, Mental Health First Aid training (MHFA) is preferred;
• Ability to respond to threats to safety and security of staff and clients;
• Problem solver and has strong ability to make quick decisions under stressful situations;
• Demonstrated strong ability to work as part of a team;
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to form relationships with marginalized individuals;
• Knowledge of community resources for homelessness, health, mental health and substance use;
• Knowledge of chronic, episodic and transient homelessness;
• Demonstrated understanding of the unique issues and barriers affecting the less-fortunate;
• Highly developed understanding of and proven ability to communicate appropriate professional boundaries;
• Knowledge and awareness of the Indigenous culture and cultural diversity
• Able to work effectively with minimal supervision;
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and database applications (i.e HIFIS 4.0);
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

• Hours of work: On-Call basis and may include days, evenings, and weekends, including statutory holidays
