Job Description

We’re seeking a leader to serve as Department Manager, Earth and Infrastructure, to help achieve BBA’s strategic goals. Working mainly at the Montréal office, the incumbent will manage the department’s human, financial and material resources, and supervise the progress of activities to help BBA achieve its business plan and attain operational efficiency objectives.

The incumbent will be required to:

  • Assume a leadership role and engage a team of 30 experienced professionals.
  • Maintain a high technical standard of work.
  • Establish, lead and participate in business development strategies in collaboration with the Montréal office director, BBA executives and other areas of expertise to drive the expansion of the Earth and Infrastructure group process team.
  • Represent BBA at mining and metal conferences and trade association events.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers, designers and project support staff who are qualified in preparing proposals, studies, reports, plans, designs, cost estimates and technical specifications.
  • Contribute effectively to the firm’s various projects, whether as a senior engineer, mentor/coach, project manager or study manager, etc.
  • Inspire your team by making tangible contributions to operations and projects.
  • Work with other experienced staff from BBA’s technical teams to share information, identify market trends and create a network of international resources to support projects, where required.
  • As a key member of BBA’s Earth and Infrastructure leadership team, help implement strategic management and orientation initiatives, where necessary.
  • Identify and support ongoing learning and training activities for members of the Earth and Infrastructure process team.
  • Make sure the department meets its responsibilities and obligations of BBA’s health, safety and environment standards.
  • Identify resource gaps within the Earth and Infrastructure process team, and assist in assessing and recruiting these resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s and master’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Registered member of a professional engineering association and hold a designation issued by a provincial or territorial engineering association in Canada or the ability to obtain such a designation within the next six months
  • Advanced technical expertise in tailings management or infrastructure in the heavy industry sector
  • At least 15 years of relevant professional experience in consulting engineering or project management, including team management
  • Experience in engaging and managing teams
  • Excellent soft skills and collaborative management skills
  • Knowledge of the National Instrument 43-101 reporting guidelines
  • Established network of contacts in the process sector related to the Earth and Infrastructure sector
  • Interest and skills in business development
  • Bilingual (English and French)
  • Available to travel occasionally to domestic or international destinations
  • Asset: experience in preparing budgets, estimates and schedules, with financial modelling skills.
