PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB: · The EH&S Specialist Contractor Management, provides coaching and mentoring to contract owners, contractor leaders & EH&S personnel on the EH&S aspects of Gibson’s Contractor Management processes, OHS legislation and techniques for contractor safety management. This is achieved through ongoing assessment of contractor performance, OHS compliance, and by making recommendations for improvement of contractor safety management systems and processes. The Specialist provides generalist EH&S support, coaching and mentoring to Project Development & Engineering (PD&E) staff. Areas of core EH&S support include: EH&S hazard assessment & management, interpretation and application of EH&S legal requirements, incident management, root cause analysis, audits & assessments and interacting with EH&S regulators.
ACCOUNTABILITIES: · Demonstrates a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) through participation in all applicable EH&S programs and ensures safe operation and compliance with all Company EH&S policies and procedures. · Provide leadership, training, and expertise in the implementation of the EH&S Management System programs to ensure successful execution for the PD&E team. · Provides direction on the EH&S components of SCM contractor EH&S pre-qualification, qualification and performance management processes and validates organizational conformance. Participates in updates to these standards when required. · Ensures implementation of contractor safety internal best practice for the company. · Provides data analysis and recommendations to all levels of leadership to improve contractor safety performance. · Performs field audits and observations of contractor executed work on a planned and scheduled basis to ensure that safety system and processes are achieving desired intent. · Provides direct support to contract owners with evaluation of safety risk and recommended mitigations associated with contractor scopes of work and validates effectiveness of implementation. · Support safety communications · Assist with the development of technical procedures and standards
KEY SKILLS: · Skilled in knowledge of construction processes including, but not limited to: ground disturbance, confined space, control of hazardous energy, working at heights, dropped objects, A&D, etc. · Ability to plan, schedule and lead projects related to the design, implementation and/or improvement of contractor safety. · Ability to interpret, apply and continuously improve Gibson’s contractor’s safety processes and the EH&S aspects of supply chain processes. · Able to interpret and apply OHS regulatory requirements and best practices. · Ability to advise the company on internal and external best practices on contractor safety management. · Ability to perform field audits and observations including the organizing feedback into meaningful and broad recommendations for improvement & validation of system effectiveness. · Able to interpret data, make inferences and recommendations based on that data. · Ability to foster strong relationships with the SCM function, contract owners, leaders and EH&S professionals within the contractor organizations. · Technical writing ability. · Min. 8 + years of experience supporting the EH&S components of contractor management.
QUALIFICATIONS: · Post-secondary education in related field along with certifications related to the role · 10+ years in a progressive function · Knowledge of current legislation and standards · Intermediate to advanced computer skills and associated business and industry software · Professional accreditations (CRSP) preferred
WORKING CONDITIONS: · Working in outdoor conditions may be required. · Some travel will be required.
