Job Description

Your role as a Protection and Control Engineer in Digital Power Systems will be to take part in engineering projects related to transmission and distribution systems. You will be responsible for ensuring the quality of professional services provided and maintaining good working relationships with both internal colleagues and external clients.

In such a position, we expect the candidate to have developed a good understanding of electrical design principles, codes and standards, as well as protection and control of systems and apparatus through various applications within the industry, utility and industrial. The ideal candidate will have also been exposed to field work, including assembly, testing and commissioning of electrical systems and equipment.

The successful candidate will carry out the following activities:

• Develop, implement and demonstrate a digitalization lab; PMU, Synchrophasors, Protection schemes, System monitoring and annunciation.
• Monitor projects (project team, cost and scheduling) such as outdoor and indoor substations, protection and control upgrades
• Capable of supervising a team and delivering a project within a budget
• Research existing documents on the client’s document control system to support consultants with obtaining relevant information
• Prepare feasibility studies and estimates for OPEX and CAPEX projects
• Prepare DBM and FEED level scopes, total installed costs estimates, schedules and studies
• Review detailed engineering designs and technical specifications for construction work for both (greenfield and brownfield projects)
• Electrical system studies: system impact assessment, protection and coordination, arc flash, harmonic, etc.
• Coordinate RFI’s with construction and Engineering teams
• Support commissioning and start up teams after construction turnover
• Support operations in troubleshooting a trip event, equipment failure, etc.

Requirements

• Electrical Engineer Degree with eligibility to register with APEGA
• 10+ years of professional experience, specializing in Protection and Control and system monitoring
• Professional Engineer designation with APEGA or eligible for immediate registration
• Establish protection requirements/ guidelines
• Develop Relay logics, relay configuration files, data sheet
• Working knowledge or IEC61850, smart grid solutions
• Hands on experience with testing of protection relaying
• Lead electrical studies (protection, load flow, harmonics, arc flash)
• Knowledge of electrical transient analysis (switching, TRV, etc.)
• Knowledge of Control and monitoring systems (HMI, RTU, etc.)
• Knowledge of telecommunication networks
• Working knowledge of electrical design standards (CSA, IEEE, ANSI/IEC)
• Knowledge of electrical installation safety and operating plant safety practices
• Field experience: on-site surveys, construction support, commissioning activities
• Knowledge of project management practices
• Ability to establish sound working relationships with co-workers, partners, clients and administrators
• Knowledge of the MS Office Suite (Outlook, MS Project, Excel)
• Knowledge of etap, CYME, ASPEN, PSSE
• Knowledge of Python, MathCAD
