Detailed Overview

Performs skilled electrical work at the journeyman level in installing, constructing, altering, repairing, maintaining and servicing electrical equipment and systems.


Responsibilities

  1. Installs and repairs electrical wiring and equipment; alters and repairs circuits; makes connections to equipment and appliances.
  2. Trouble shoots electrical wiring and equipment, failures and system problems.
  3. Carries out electrical safety inspections on equipment, appliances, motors and controls; Ensures compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
  4. Reviews work requests and consults with use departments regarding specifications and other project requirements.
  5. Interprets blueprints, drawings and specifications in order to determine material and equipment required; calculates materials and labour in estimating cost of projects and makes recommendations as required.
  6. Prepares for work project by arranging work schedule with user departments and assembling supplies, tools and equipment.
  7. Recommends detailed improvements to facilities in all areas of responsibility.
  8. Develops, implements and assures performance of preventative maintenance and quality assurance programs in all areas of responsibility.
  9. Requisitions materials and supplies and advises on optimal warehouse stock levels.
  10. Maintains routine work activity reports and records.
  11. Interprets drawings, blueprints and installation specifications.
  12. Liaises with, on an as needed basis, external consultants and/or work forces to ensure work proposed/performed meets hospital and/or regulatory standards.
  13. Participates in continuous Quality Improvement activities, to enrich and advance various processes, through the effective use of resources to meet the needs of the customer.
  14. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Certificate of Apprenticeship or Trades Qualification Certificate as a Journeyman Electrician recognized by the Province of British Columbia. Two years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
