The GIS Mapping Technician position is a full-time position with overtime paid after 8 hours. You will be part of a dynamic, positive environment with excellent career growth opportunities. Situated on the confluence of the Fraser and Nechako rivers, Prince George is the largest city in northern British Columbia. Our Prince George office is the Hub for our Northern operations and is located on River Road, right across from Cottonwood Island Park which is part of a park and trail system that is simply world-class. Combined, there are over 100kms of trails including a new Centennial Trail that links the rivers and urban parks with the University of Northern British Columbia and diverse neighborhoods. There are five ski hills within a two-hour drive of the City and numerous opportunities for camping, hiking, fishing, snowshoeing, and mountain-biking. On the edge of Prince George is the Otway Nordic Centre, which boasts 55 kilometres of groomed trails.

This position is specifically for an operational mapper. In this role, you will be responsible for cleaning up GPS data and providing operational mapping products for field staff and clients. Strong organizational skills and experience with Arcmap 10x, Land Resource Management (LRM), Collector for ArcGIS, and Python scripting would be beneficial.

  • A minimum of a technical diploma or an advanced technical diploma in GIS.
  • Strong ability to work both within a dynamic team environment and independently, with little supervision and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proven organizational and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Strong cartographic skills.
  • A minimum of 1 year of forestry related map creation experience.
  • Expertise with the ESRI ArcGIS suite of software tools.
  • Thorough understanding of geodatabases.
  • A professional, friendly and courteous manner, being service and team oriented.
  • Initiative and perseverance.

Additional Considerations:

  • Experience with LRM.
  • Familiarity with British Columbia forest industry practices.
  • Preference will be given to those applicants with relevant field experience.
