As the Head Cook & Kitchen Coordinator in our Designated Supportive Living Facility, Stone Brook, you will work indirectly with Residents with diverse needs by ensuring their dietary needs and standards are following best practices. Care Human Services, is an accredited, not-for-profit, charitable agency that provides a wide range of community services in Northwest Alberta.


WHAT YOU WILL DO


  • Prepare lunch and dinner daily for up to eighty residents (two menu options)
  • Occasionally preparing for additional guests such as meeting attendees, families, including large events around the holidays
  • Providing direction and guidance to other kitchen staff
  • Ordering groceries in alignment with the menu
  • Consistently looking for economical efficiencies and working within a finite budget
  • Finding opportunities to improve food services to meet the desires of our residents
  • Annually working with the dietician to revise the menu to reflect Canada’s Food Guide and the preferences of residents through feedback collected.
  • Ensuring that recipes are consistently followed as per the menu
  • Obtaining approval for non-regular kitchen purchases including the purchase of kitchen assets
  • Communicating staffing needs including recruitment and performance management needs to the Stone Brook Manager
  • Communicating and obtaining approval for additional staffing hours outside of the regular hours
  • Able to use computer software such as gmail, online purchasing sites, etc.
  • Maintaining a system of ensuring food is prepared to the specific dietary needs of residents
  • Handle kitchen wares and operate power kitchen equipment, such as dishwashers
  • May be exposed to loud noise levels, temperature variations and humidity in the kitchen, fridges and other areas
  • Ensure all surfaces are sanitized and equipment is cleaned (in accordance with the cleaning schedule) and if needed, ensure equipment is stored in a safe and protected manner after use and that any unsafe or faulty equipment is reported to the manager
  • Attend in-service programs and maintain knowledge of the facilities policies and procedures
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned by the DSL Manager
  • Adhere to the guidelines set forth by Alberta Public Health

Our work sites are home to therapeutic animals, including cats


WHAT YOU NEED


  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector
  • Update Food Safety Certification through AHS or an approved provider
  • Must be 18 years or older to apply

  • Experience with coordinating and preparing mass daily food services for an organization/ company
  • Experience working and collaborating with Environmental Public Health to ensure services provided by Stone Brook’s kitchen always meets and exceeds the basic provincial standards
  • Confident in cooking abilities
  • Open to feedback and constructive criticism
  • Always seeking opportunities to improve
  • Works well and has experience guiding or leading a team
  • Energetic and comfortable working in a fast pace environment
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of and experience promoting a safe kitchen environment
  • Understanding of and experience preparing food in a safe and sanitary manner
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs


POSITIONS AVAILABLE


  • Full-Time - averaging 40 hours per week with a set rotation of 4 days on, 2 days off, 9am to 6pm shifts
