Your Opportunity

As an Industrial Engineering Design Manager, you will lead and coordinate architectural and engineering professionals’ design tasks and deliverables on medium to large scale Industrial projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Managers to develop projects Design Management Plans.

  • Advise the Project Manager on subject matter expertise required to complete designs.

  • Identify Projects’ multi-discipline design needs, establish priorities, document design decisions and information flows.

  • Lead and coordinate multiple disciplines’ professional designs in all phases of the Project.

  • Identify and resolve inter-discipline design interfaces, gaps and risks to enable disciplines to complete integrated, coordinated designs.

  • Coordinate delivery of Project designs to guidelines established in the Design Management Plans.

  • Communicate continuously with design professionals as required to complete projects.

  • Assist the Project Manager to coordinate with the client group to obtain client’s design and technical requirements for the Project.

  • Manage change by advising the Project Manager and design team on opportunities to adapt to changing schedule priorities while maintaining cost and quality.

  • Coordinate design and deliverables between Stantec’s design team and external subconsultants.

  • Provide multi-discipline coordination of design deliverables including project definition reports, design reports, design drawings and documents, construction documents including drawings and specifications.

  • Provide Quality Control review of inter-discipline coordination of design deliverables.

  • Oversee disciplines’ Quality Assurance review of designs on behalf of the Project Manager.

  • Report to the Project Manager on status and physical progress of Project designs.

  • Assist the design team to compile and deliver complete design and construction documents packages to the Project Coordinator for issue to the external Project team, authorities, bidders and vendors.

  • Provide inter-discipline coordination of professionals’ responses to contractor requests for information, and professionals’ review of submittals and shop drawings.

  • Carry out the Design Manager role and responsibilities on multiple Projects simultaneously, in all phases of the Project.

  • Take overall direction from and report to the Industrial Studio Project Management Discipline Lead.


Your Capabilities and Credentials

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Leadership experience in Design Management roles

  • Experience leading large multi-discipline design teams

  • Subject matter expertise in a range of industrial facility project types

  • Experience with a variety of methods of project delivery, design delivery, and construction procurement

  • Ability to manage change in the project delivery environment

  • Team player with excellent language, communication and relationship skills

  • Experience with energy and environment building rating systems

  • Ability to schedule and complete own tasks within overall project schedules

  • Ability to multitask on a variety of project types and scales

  • Availability for travel

Education and Experience

  • 10-15 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Professional degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent.

  • Experience managing at least five consulting projects each with minimum consulting fees of $250K.

  • Experience with Revit, BIM360 and Revizto considered an asset.
