Technical Safety BC employs approximately 450 people who support thousands of clients from mobile and physical offices across the province. The corporate office is designed with an open-concept and is located in Vancouver. Technical Safety BC has more than 10 offices throughout British Columbia.

The Leader, Health & Safety is a member of the People leadership team and reports to the Director, Organizational Development & Change. This key role has a mandate to provide strategic direction, thought leadership and practical advice to implement, evaluate and continually improve an enterprise-wise Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Program that honours the fundamental purpose, vision, business priorities and values of Technical Safety BC. The OHS Program must embody practical policies and practices that raise awareness of, and behavioural commitment to, occupational health and safety across the company. The Leader, Health & Safety coaches and mentors a unionized team of 4 professionals. The OHS Program, and the way the Leader, Health & Safety and the team members who report to him/her/they deliver the Program, must effectively influence employees at all levels to adopt and consistently model behaviours that reduce risk, prevent accidents and ensure employee safety. The Leader, Health & Safety, and the OHS team, are accountable for proactively communicating with employees to encourage behaviours that ensure employee safety, for monitoring performance to assess alignment between policies, practices, relevant legislation and the collective agreement, for investigating and reporting on accidents and incidents and for enrolling commitment of leaders and employees across the company to take remedial and preventative actions to promote employee safety.

The candidate must be a strategic, innovative thinker who can make the complex simple and work with a collaborative style. The candidate must be an exceptional analyst, communicator and relationship builder with a track record of influencing without authority and for implementing a highly effective OHS initiatives in complex environments. With a post-secondary degree in a relevant discipline such as Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health or a red seals certified trade, the candidate must have at least 7 years of progressive leadership experience which includes effectively managing change, coaching a team and implementing effective OHS initiatives. With strong knowledge of OHS regulations and industry standards regarding OHS programs, the candidate must be highly curious, a great listener and a pragmatist who has the demonstrated ability to lead, guide and develop others. The candidate must have knowledge of, and experience in, applying risk assessment principles and leading accident and incident investigations. With abundant common sense, a positive attitude, high integrity and excellent problem-solving, writing, presentation and implementation skills, the candidate must have a high tolerance for ambiguity and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
