Mechanical Engineer - Maintenance

This position reports to the Engineering Superintendent and acts a technical advisor to the Operations and Maintenance Superintendent in their area. As a maintenance engineer, you will recommend procedures, methods, materials, and specifications to reduce costs and increase productivity of mill operations. You will learn best practices for the equipment in your area and use those practices to improve Cariboo Pulp. The position also acts as a liaison to vendors and consultants to resolve recurring maintenance problems. This role is also responsible for planning and overseeing major maintenance and capital projects. Previous experience is preferred but junior level applicants will be considered.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Detailed engineering and project management of maintenance and capital projects
  • Major maintenance shutdown planning, budgeting, and executing
  • Supervise and coordinate contractors to complete projects
  • Advise Maintenance personnel on best practices
  • Specify and optimize equipment to maximize reliability and performance
  • Oversee the pressure vessel, piping, and tank integrity program for associated equipment
  • Responsible for the safe and efficient installation of new equipment and major repairs to existing equipment, which may include boilers and auxiliary equipment


  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and eligible to register as an EIT or P.Eng with EGBC
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Excellent skills in all forms of communication
  • The motivation to learn new skills and advance into progressive technical/leadership roles
  • The desire to grow and succeed
  • Pulp mill or heavy industry experience is preferred
