Job Overview

Working under minimal supervision and leading a Quality Assurance & Standard Work Team, the Manager, Commercial Insurance Quality Assurance is a key senior member of the Commercial Insurance Executive Office team working closing with the VP & all Commercial Insurance Directors to contribute to Wawanesa’s success by directing, planning and implementing strategies and initiatives pertaining to Quality Assurance, Standard Work and Best Practices across all Commercial lines Products, Regions and functions. This includes assessment of internal controls, the overall effectiveness and efficiency of operations and to ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements in support of the organization's strategic goals and initiatives.

The ideal candidate is an experienced Commercial Insurance Leader who is passionate about building a leading Commercial Business, is experienced driving change with excellent communication and influencing skills.

Job Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, manage, communicate and drive the actions coming out of an Independent Quality Assurance program consisting of Annual Risk Assessments, Quarterly Quality Assurance Reviews, Reviews associated with Broker Delegated Authority, and Regional File Review programs across Commercial Insurance to achieve the organization’s strategic objectives and risk profile
• Manage review planning and scheduling of all Quality Assurance activities including special reviews requested by the senior management and executive team members, as required
• Lead Standard Work and initiatives related to driving efficiency in partnership with Operational Excellence, while maintaining quality across Commercial Insurance
• Provide quarterly reports and updates on findings, and collaborate with the Commercial Insurance Leadership Team (Executive Office Directors and Regional Leadership) on actions coming out of all Quality Assurance Activities to improve internal controls and processes across CI, including identification of emerging trends and the capacity of the Regional Teams ability to support and drive QA activities
• Create and maintain a dashboard of all actions, owners and progress coming out of all Quality Assurance, Governance & Compliance related work on behalf of Commercial Insurance
• Owns and communicates all policies and procedures related to Quality Assurance and ensures all underwriters and leadership teams understand the philosophy, and provides the training required to ensure all individuals involved in Quality Assurance activities are calibrated in their approach
• Leads the strategy around quality assurance including the measurement, oversight, tracking and improvement
• Provide consulting and advisory services in governance, risk management and controls to assist Underwriting teams meet its operational and strategic objectives
• Act as the key point of contact for all inquiries, collaboration and reporting to all ERM, Legal & Compliance teams on behalf of Commercial Insurance
• Act as the key point of contact for any OSFI inquiries and reporting on behalf of Commercial Insurance
• Leverages data and metrics that support the ability of Commercial Insurance to optimize efficiencies and outcomes by ensuring that resources and actions are appropriately aligned with Commercial Insurance Strategic Imperatives and operational and financial goals


• More than ten years of commercial underwriting and leadership experience in the insurance industry and extensive knowledge of Property Casualty and insurance operations in general
• 5 years internal audit or quality assurance experience with five years in a leadership role would be an asset
• Certified CIP, FCIP, CIA, CFE and/or CISA designation is considered an asset
• French language skills considered an asset
• Excellent leadership skills with the ability to influence and gain respect, credibility and confidence from others
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to manage and execute multiple complex projects and Quality Assurance initiatives within required timelines and expectations
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and concise reports with an appropriate tone and style
• Ability to make excellent and well justified decisions in complex and high-pressured situations
• Strong negotiation skills by presenting information or arguments in a convincing manner and by focusing on what is important.
• Strong business acumen with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to recognize and identify critical issues
• Strong MS Office skills and experience with an electronic audit working paper system and or quality assurance system
• Ability and willingness to travel
