Nasittuq is currently bidding on the contract for the Operation & Maintenance of the North Warning System (NWS). The NWS is a joint Canada and United States early-warning radar system with 47 sites located in Northern Canada; a Control Centre and Support Centre located in North Bay, ON and a Contract Management Office located in Ottawa, ON.

This job posting is being advertised in advance of award of a contract. Employment is contingent upon Nasittuq being awarded the contract.

Responsibilities:

The Fire Services Officer will be responsible for ensuring fire prevention and protection of all NWS infrastructure.

  • Responsible for preparation, implementation, and administration of an NWS Fire Services Plan.
  • Advise Managers and staff of fire safety requirements and ensure personnel comply with the fire regulations by training them in both fire prevention and fire control procedures.
  • Conduct on-site inspections at all NWS sites and prepare subsequent reports.
  • Conduct fire investigations and prepare subsequent reports.
  • Conduct fire prevention and fire system training of Nasittuq staff.
  • Review PMI task cards for fire protection systems on behalf of the Life Cycle Manager (LCM) and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Review project files to ensure compliance of the designs and the approach to implementation to the required references stated in the Contract.
  • Ensure compliance of the Fire Services Plan with current federal, provincial, and territorial legislation as appropriate, as well as the SOW, by regularly reviewing these publications, and making recommendations for amendments.
  • Provides technical support for the Fire Protection System LCM during investigations of failures of NWS fire protection systems.

Qualifications:

  • Certified NFPA 1021 Fire Officer 2 by a national certification organization acceptable to the Canadian Forces Fire Marshal’s Office (e.g. International Fire Service Accreditation Congress or Pro-Board Fire Service Professional Qualifications System).
  • Five (5) years experience in managing fire prevention and protection services.
  • Adaptability and ability to manage priorities with attention to detail and work cross-culturally.
  • Computer literate in MS applications, strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Candidates must be Canadian citizens, be eligible and maintain Level (II) SECRET security clearance.
