Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (PM), a teaching hospital of the University of Toronto, has achieved an international reputation as a global leader in the fight against cancer and is considered one of the top comprehensive cancer treatment and research centres in the world. Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, together with its research institute, is a member of the University Health Network, which also includes the Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital and Toronto Rehabilitation Institute. PM is the only facility in Canada devoted exclusively to cancer research, treatment, and education.

The Gaiti Lab at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and University of Toronto is seeking post-doctoral scientists to study human somatic and cancer evolution using cutting edge molecular and computational approaches. Our work includes novel computational frameworks and single-cell multi-omics methodologies to decipher the interactions between genome, epigenome, and phenotype in human tissues. We implement a complementary approach of discovering cancer-specific signatures directly in patient samples through the powerful single-cell sequencing platforms and mechanistically defining these targets through model systems for translational impact. Our particular focus is on pioneering novel technologies and computational framework to study cancer evolution with single-cell multi-omics.

We are recruiting both (1) wet lab-focused molecular biologists to lead single-cell genomics technology development and experiments and (2) computational biologists to develop new algorithms for discovery in high-dimensional datasets generated by novel experimental procedures.


  • PhD degree obtained within the last five (5) years or MD within the last ten (10) years
  • MD or PhD in human genetics, molecular biology, or related field with expertise in any of the following: sequencing technologies, cellular/molecular biology, genomics technology development, murine modeling; or
  • PhD in computational biology, computer science, or a related field with expertise in analyzing next generation sequencing data, machine learning, biostatistics.
  • A publication record.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills, along with a high degree of independence and flexibility to thrive in a novel and rapidly evolving research environment.
  • Track record of teaching and mentoring students and technicians.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse team of clinicians and scientists, including post-docs, students, and technicians.

Successful applicants are encouraged to attend scientific meetings and the lab will provide support for at least one scientific conference per year. While this position is not contingent upon securing additional funding, successful candidates will be supported and encouraged to apply for outside sources of funding. Candidates are welcomed to explore their own scientific interests into areas of research that fall within the general scope of the lab.
