Job Summary

The Sports Product Development Specialist is responsible for maintaining and enhancing BCLC’s sport betting products, both online and at retail. The role proactively builds, develops and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. As a specialist in sports and betting, helps shape BCLC’s Sports product portfolio to maximize revenues while ensuring that product integrity is maintained to the highest standard. This role will involve work on large projects, in addition to overseeing ongoing smaller fixes and enhancements.

Key Accountabilities

  • Maintains and contributes to the development of new Sports products and enhancements, providing input into the Enterprise Sports product roadmap and implementing roadmap activities, reviewing player feedback and making recommendations to improve user experience and support business objectives across multiple user channels/devices.
  • Collaborates with various project teams to develop new Sports product initiatives, and may be required to participate in other corporate priority projects.
  • Implements ongoing enhancements and fixes from the PlayNow Ops Queue. Represents the product category in planning/scheduling meetings, and is able to make sound decisions and prioritize on behalf of the Sports team.
  • Liaises with internal partners and external vendors to assist in resolution of technical site issues with minimal disruption to the player experience; and assist in ongoing site enhancements while maintaining site quality and integrity.
  • Develops, maintains and manages strong working relationships with various internal and external stakeholders. Works collaboratively with our vendors, I.T., User Experience, and and project teams to ensure the best product experience for our players and with vendors/suppliers and regulatory bodies as a subject matter expert to provide technical expertise.
  • Conducts diverse, complex and specialized research and analytical work by proactively assessing sports betting industry developments and trends, providing advice and recommending solutions to maximize revenue and limit liability to the organization.
  • Provide assistance to the Sports Operations team, as required.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Degree or Diploma in eCommerce, Technology, Business, Sports Management or a related field;
  • 3 - 5 years of recent, related experience;
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.

Technical Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of sports and sports betting and/or odd setting, with in-depth knowledge of popular professional and college sports leagues (NHL, NFL, MLB, NBA, NCAA, etc.);
  • Ability to act on own initiative, exercise sound judgment, prioritize tasks, work within established deadlines and time restraints and to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Exceptional time management, multi-tasking skills, problem solving and decision making skills in a technical environment;
  • Solid understanding of both PlayNow Sports and Sports Action products is essential;
  • Familiarity with Agile development processes is an asset;
  • Understanding of B.C. gaming industry is an asset;
  • Familiarity with TGS-5 Regulations and Canadian Criminal Code, as it pertains to betting, is an asset;
  • Good written and verbal communication and computer skills (MS Office).
