The Product Marketing Manager, Construction has an in-depth knowledge of target markets and leads the go-to-market introduction of products and services. Using market research and competitive analysis, the Product Marketing Manager develops product marketing strategies in conjunction with SMS business units and OEMs for new product line introductions, new equipment model introductions and existing product line expansions. Reporting to the Director, Marketing & Communications, this role collaborates with the marketing team to develop innovative, targeted and product-specific marketing tools that drive demand and conversion.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Creating sales tools to help the sales force sell our products and services
  • Enabling sales through product-specific sales training support
  • Working closely with OEMs to fully leverage product marketing content and provide a feedback loop on SMS priorities back to OEMs
  • Leading go-to-market teams for new product line launches and new model introductions from SMS’s major construction OEMs
  • Acting as the primary thought leader for products SMS supports externally, including speaking engagements and written works
  • Supporting product planning by evaluating readiness, preparing user and buyer scenarios and user and buyer segmentation
  • Developing market analysis and insights through customer and competitor analysis, product research, and review of market trends and dynamics


This position typically requires a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the heavy equipment industry with at least 2 years in a customer/market facing role delivering product presentations to customers and prospects. Additional qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, or another related field
  • Subject matter expertise in heavy construction equipment including equipment knowledge, application familiarity, and industry challenges
  • Excellent presentation and public speaking skills; must be comfortable in front of large groups of sales and senior-level audiences
  • Demonstrated success positioning and launching differentiated products
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
  • Excellent teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate with sales, marketing, technical sales support and business management
