Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Engineering & Technical Services or delegate, the QA Inspector/Surveyor will perform quality inspections to support to the S&C Division at all levels, to ensure the project requirements are satisfied and an overall high quality of work is achieved. The QA surveyor will also provide daily progress reporting, defect tracking and resolution.

Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Conduct inspections to correlate field installation to approved construction drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Supervise field construction actives and provide guidance to the construction group to ensure installation meets approved designs and project requirements.
  • Identify and document all discrepancies observed and track them to resolution.
  • Take measurements of physical and electrical characteristics with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Participate in project meetings as PNR’s technical representative, if required.
  • Interact with multi-disciplinary teams on proposals and projects.
  • Ensure that all safety policies are enforced; conducts regular site inspections/audits.

Requirements

  • 2 + years of mainline railway signal construction experience within design / build or signaling maintenance environments or similar major critical infrastructure construction project.
  • Strong understanding of construction techniques and project management.
  • Knowledge of all railway disciplines e.g. track construction & civil engineering etc. insofar as they affect signal system installation.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Hands on experience with measurement tools and instruments including tape measure, multi-meter, megger, tone generator, etc.
  • Better than average understanding and practical knowledge of commonly used software e.g. Microsoft Office suite;
  • Excellent language skills in written and spoken English
  • Strong communication and presentation skills

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Mostly works outdoors in live railway environment and occasionally working at site trailer office.
  • Stands, walks, climbs, balances, stoops, and crouches while negotiating work areas under construction.
  • May be exposed to live track/trains and loud noise.
  • May be exposed to harsh weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather.
  • Working shifts including days, nights and weekends on a rotational basis.
