‘We offer a great schedule- from mid-April to mid-October, our operating season, you will work 3 nightshifts from 8:30 PM to 8:30 AM, a 36-hour week topped up to 40 hours through our agreement. In our maintenance season, from mid-October to mid-April, you will work 4 dayshifts a week, from 7 AM to 5 PM.’

Reporting to the Supervisor, Mechanical, the Refrigeration Mechanic is an integral team member of the Rocky Mountaineer Operations and Mechanical team. The Refrigeration Mechanic will be responsible for the safe inspection, maintenance, and repair of the HVAC and refrigeration equipment on Rocky Mountaineer’s facilities and assets.

Compensation

  • The base salary offered for this role is $43.42 per hour.

Key Areas of Accountability

  • Maintain and repair all HVAC and refrigeration equipment
  • Execute regular equipment inspections to verify equipment and systems are operating optimally
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, replace, and calibrate and program controls
  • Maintain associated electrical and electronic controls
  • Update documentation (drawings, specifications, ODS logs, etc.) related to HVAC services
  • Perform minor preventative maintenance on tools and equipment
  • Troubleshoot diverse equipment types and support cross functional trade defect repairs
  • Willingness to participate in personal development company initiatives

Safety

  • Comply with Canadian Railway Operating Rules (CROR), General Operating Instructions (GOI), Federal Railroad Association (FRA), and all other safety policies, procedures, and rules
  • Identify, protect, and report safety hazards to management and OH&S Committee
  • Meet or exceed safety and security requirements
  • Maintain basic first aid level provided by Rocky Mountaineer

Operations

  • Support the successful execution of the Operating Plan
  • Support safe movement of rail equipment
  • Execute the company’s materials handling strategy
  • Support operational and equipment availability requirements
  • Support 5S Lean methodology to seek continuous improvement efficiencies
  • This position may require the ability to train for and perform switching duties

Mechanical

  • Able to read, understand, and interpret schematics, manuals and other instructions pertaining to equipment
  • Train for the use of equipment and hand tools
  • Execute a successful Maintenance Program
  • Ensure completion of work orders maintaining brand standards, working collaboratively with team members and contractors
  • Execute mechanical and reliability requirements

Education, Certification, Licenses

  • Red Seal Refrigeration Mechanic Qualification
  • High School Diploma
  • First Aid Level 1 Certification is an asset
  • Valid driver's license and history of responsible driving behavior, and road safety as demonstrated on your driver's abstract
  • Qualification and/or proven knowledge in safe heavy equipment operations such as forklifts, cranes, etc.
  • Qualification and/or proven knowledge in safe small hand tool handling such as grinders, drills, etc.
  • Understanding of other trades such as electrical and plumbing is an asset
  • Previous Qualification under CROR Operating Rules is an asset

Experience/Skills

  • Experience in 120, 208, 240, and 480-volt AC systems and 24vDC systems
  • Experience with heating and refrigeration in commercial building and mobile equipment industries is preferred
  • Hot gas bypass systems knowledge and experience
  • Railroad experience is an asset
  • Strong coordination and organizational skills
  • High attention to detail with a desire to maintain brand standards
  • Able to take personal accountability, be adaptable, and be a problem solver
  • Familiarity with computer applications
  • Good communication and leadership skills
  • Able to work cross-functionally

Work Environment

  • May require occasional travel
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including lifting, carrying, and maneuvering objects as required by job tasks.
  • Rail industrial site that requires walking and sitting throughout the day
  • During our operating season from mid-April to mid-October you will be working 3 days of 12 hour night shifts (8:30pm to 8:30am). In the maintenance season you will be working 4 days of 10 hour day shifts (7am to 5pm).
