SMS Equipment is looking for a dynamic leader with an outstanding orientation to customer relations and solutions. Based out of the Edmonton branch, and supporting Light Construction in the Edmonton region, the Regional Sales Manager will lead the development and planning of short and long term plans and strategies, executing those plans and strategies to achieve our vision "To be the #1 equipment and solutions provider to our customers." This position reports to the VP, Equipment Sales, with indirect responsibility to interact and cooperate with branch Operations Managers.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing the consistent application and implementation of the sales and sales management skills development program
  • Ensuring implementation of corporate initiatives, policies and procedures, and business processes by proper communication, education and training
  • Identifying business opportunities and potential problem areas
  • Managing the sales staff for maximum performance and territory coverage
  • Ensuring consistent application of market based pricing to ensure sales quotation packages meet the accepted corporate standards and objectives
  • Consulting with corporate sales to develop sales strategies and recommendations to manufacturers to support corporate sales targets and stakeholder market shares
  • Identifying specific market growth opportunities, market threats, and challenges; providing proactive recommendations for the market segment based on anticipated developments
  • The day-to-day sales activities primarily for the Construction, Forestry & Utility market segments while assisting the Product Support sales representatives when appropriate


  • Requires a working knowledge, founded in years of experience in the sales profession, on theoretical principles and concepts associated with managing a sales team in a geographic and industry diverse environment
  • A minimum of 5 - 10 years of experience within the Construction, Forestry and Utility equipment distribution industry with a strong marketing/sales orientation is required
  • A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Ability to set objectives in a cooperative environment which are realistic but aggressive
  • Demonstrate a strength and competency in impacting and influencing others to achieve desired outcomes (ie. Budgets, Human Resource, and Technology)
  • Emphasizes corporate values, mission and long term goals rather than short term objectives or perspectives
  • Effectively operate in a high energy, urgent, and at times stressful environment
  • Skillfully utilize the skills of subordinate sales associates to accomplish corporate objectives; provide a degree of supervision, support and accessibility
  • Maintain motivation in a highly cyclical industry
